· Initiated engineering design work for wetland and riparian restoration project along the Lower Colorado River at Pintail Slough, Havasu NWR. Project will restore 88 acres of riparian habitat and 37 acres of seasonal wetlands.

CALIFORNIA
· Continuing with construction on the Shasta Valley Wildlife Area component of the Klamath Basin NAWCA project. Work will restore about 130 acres of wetlands and 225 acres of uplands. Work includes constructing nesting islands and levees, repairing levees and ditches, installing water control structures and a pipeline, and restoring native grasslands.

· Completed the last phase of construction on the Butte Valley Wildlife Area component of the Klamath Basin NAWCA project. This work enhanced about 450 acres of wetlands and included constructing nesting islands.

· Finished restoration of the Middle Dike Unit at Honey Lake WMA. This past spring, CDF&G put in a request to enhance the existing Unit in time for fall flood-up. Work included replacement of water control structures, building 8 new nesting islands and construction of a new levee to restore seasonal wetlands. This project was completed mid-September.

NEVADA
· Conducting final engineering design work for Headquarters Unit Restoration Project at Pahranagat NWR. Project will be initiated during winter 2000-2001 and will restore or enhance about 400 acres.

· Completed salt cedar removal as part of the Timberlakes Restoration Project along the Carson River at Stillwater Wildlife Management Area.

· Continuing with water conveyance system improvements, levee repair, and riparian restoration efforts at Stillwater NWR. Funding is provided by the USFWS and BOR. · A topographic survey has been completed at Steptoe Valley WMA as the first step in the restoration of this newly acquired property.

OREGON (Klamath Basin and Oregon Closed Basin)
· Initiated topographic survey for wetland restoration and enhancement project on the Klamath Wildlife Area, Miller Island Unit. Project will enhance about 500 acres of seasonal wetlands and restore irrigation capabilities to about 150 acres of grain fields. Earthwork for the project will be initiated during spring 2001.

· Initiated topographic survey for the Lower Klamath NWR component of the Klamath Basin NAWCA project. Restoration work will be conducted during late summer 2001. Project will restore about 300 acres of seasonal wetlands by reconstructing an existing irrigation canal, recontouring a water delivery ditch, and installing water control structures.

· Initiated planning for restoration work that will occur on two private properties along the Sprague River near Beatty, Oregon.

· Continuing construction on the Randall Wetlands component of the Klamath Basin NAWCA project. Component is located on private land in the Langell Valley. Work will restore about 700 acres of wetlands and includes repairing and constructing levees and installing water control structures and fencing.

· Completed construction of the Wood River Wetlands component of the Klamath Basin NAWCA project in October 2000. Component is located on U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land at Agency Lake. Work restored and enhanced upland nesting cover and seasonal wetlands by constructing nesting islands and repairing levees.

IDAHO
· Continuing work on the Bear Lake NWR, Bloomington Unit NAWCA project. Work includes final shaping of the 5-mile long levee, installing the water control structures, and carp control.

· Continuing levee construction, installation of water control structures and the water diversion structure on the 1,200 acre Boundary Creek WMA project.

· A topographic survey on the 750-acre Thorman WRP project was completed this fall. Engineering design work will begin this winter.

· The Natural Resources Conservation Service and DU have signed a statewide agreement to cooperate on wetlands restoration projects (as mutually agreed upon) throughout Idaho.

UTAH
· Acquisition and protection of over 350 acres of wetlands and adjacent uplands has been completed as part of the Great Salt Lake NAWCA I. These parcels will be included in the Layton Wetlands Preserve.

· The Great Salt Lake II NAWCA proposal has been approved. This project will protect, restore or enhance over 1,756 acres of wetlands and associated uplands along the Great Salt Lake. This $1 million grant was approved in September and restoration and protection activities will commence in 2001.
