Aloha and Welcome to You

I have enjoyed offering massage therapy into my world for 11 years and I appreciate the ways that receiving and giving massages has allowed me to heal my own relationship with my body and to expand my capacity to feel and be sensitive. I celebrate our ability to make changes in our lives and to bring about balance when we have the intention to do so. Please remember to be kind and loving towards yourself. If you haven't had a really wonderful massage in this lifetime, please know that it can be one of the most inspiring experiences you can ever give yourself and I would be happy to co-create it together with you.

I had my original 500-hour schooling in Hudson, New Hampshire graduating in June 1987. My work has changed considerably over the years as I have integrated other trainings. I attended a 3 month program in Los Angeles for very deep tissue work (similar to Rolfing) towards facilitating postural changes and emotional release. I've also taken several trainings in Lomilomi which is a form of massage developed within the Hawaiian culture and focused upon influencing healing in the person as a whole being, understanding the messages that the body is giving us and learning to live in a way that is congruent with what we are wanting in our lives. I feel very confident about my work and my ability to contribute on many levels to your sense of well-being.

Massage is one of the oldest healing arts. It is a therapy which makes use of the manipulation of soft tissue to induce & maintain health states within the various systems of the body. It has been found to maintain and promote muscle flexibility, assist in improved assimilation of nutrients & elimination of toxins, positively condition the cardiovascular structure, and improve mental & emotional well being, in addition to other innumerable benefits. I enjoy so much participating in this experience of release & integration that is inevitably felt.

Massage is therapeutic in that it helps us to maintain or improve present behavioral structural & physiological processes or to change any unwanted patterns. Massage Therapy allows us to sense ourselves in a manner that is different than our customary awareness. It can relieve muscle tension or bring balance by reflexing to various other systems. It is, at times, a new or forgotten feeling for many. For example, by releasing muscle tension patterns built up by defense mechanisms, we feel as though we are missing something. We are. Our old defense patterns & muscle tensions are being replaced by a more harmonious & balanced system. It is not unusual to feel lighter, like a weight has been lifted, during and/or after a massage.

I enjoy doing focused work on the neck, shoulders, back & hip areas. Most of us seem to hold our tension in these areas of the body. While I do deep tissue work, I adjust pressure and speed to accommodate each person's individual tolerance. Some people want way more pressure than others.

I use massage as an invitation to the body to change rather than a demand towards the body to change. Many of us say, "it hurts good", which is very different from the kind of pain that causes the body to resist and tighten against too much pressure being applied. A surgeon in southern California had me doing VERY deep, focused work on his neck, shoulders & back for an hour and a half session every week. He was very tight and loved the pressure and release that it afforded him. Over a span of months his body loosened enough that we were able to turn the hour and a half sessions into full body massages, with only half the time devoted to the focused work on his neck, shoulders and back.Ý

Developing a sense of trust between myself and my clients is important to me. From my own experience of receiving a massage, I cherish being able to totally let go and have no worries about how I will be handled and knowing that the work will be the depth that my body needs to release the tension I have been feeling. I love being able to extend this same gift to others through my own work.

One of my very first clients in New Hampshire, a male car mechanic who owned his own business, was suffering from headaches every day. His wife informed me that after many tests to discover what the problem could be, no answers were forthcoming. He lived on aspirin every day. We made an appointment for deep tissue work - an hour session of slow, deep work focused on his neck, shoulders & back only. WE GOT AMAZING RESULTS! For the next 2 weeks he was free of his usual chronic headaches! Into the third week, the headaches gradually started up again. So we set up his massage therapy for once every two weeks. It wasn't long before I received a call from a concerned mother whose 16 year old daughter was suffering from chronic headaches. Feeling very confident we could change the situation, I encouraged her

to bring her in. After one session of focused work, the young woman was headache free for longer than a month before the headaches began to gradually return. Each person is different in their body response and it is always interesting to me how willing the body is to be directed towards it's own health when we have the intention to do so.

Often people are surprised to feel how much tension they are holding in their face. Using an appropriate amount of pressure at certain points integrated with the flow characteristic of Swedish Massage, a wonderful feeling of release can be created. This can alleviate the discomforts associated with sinus problems, tension headaches (especially focused around the eyes) and TMJ tensions. It is sometimes amazing to experience how willing the body is to "Let Go" when it is encouraged in the right way, much to the surprise of many who believed the discomfort & suffering was "something they had to live with" because no other remedy had worked!

The Aloha Spirit permeates the Hawaiian Islands and it is carried and expressed by many of us throughout the world in the form of kindness and respect one towards another. For me the word "Aloha" is a spiritual "hello" and "goodbye", and means that I recognize the breath of God in you within my intention to create wakefullness, harmony and honesty together with you in kind and loving ways. I have integrated some of what I have learned of Lomilomi into my current work. It is like moving kindness, an active prayer. Daniel Fowler, a well known therapist on Maui, offers the most divine experience of Lomilomi that you could know and is well worth scheduling with in advance if you are destined for holiday time on this gorgeous island. Please call me for further information if you want it. I would love to support you on your journey. I also make trips to southern California where many of my friends and clients like to have massages from me when I am visiting the Corona and Orange County area. So if you, friends or family members in this area are interested in massage, please feel free to call for my schedule and/or learn of the therapist I have trained who continues with a thriving practice in that locale. Thank you for sharing this time together with me. As you continue being who you are, may you experience a deeper trust in and relaxation with your ability to create health & well-being for yourself and in relationship to those you love. If it is time for a change in your life towards your own well-being and you are ready, please reach out for assistance as is appropriate, according to your own inner knowing.

Aloha and God Bless
