1. Goin' Out Of My Head (2:28) - The tempo is moderate. The narrator can't think of anything except the girl he's singing to. Yet he's afraid to tell her that he loves her. "There's no reason why my being shy should keep us apart," he tells her. His feelings cause him to go insane all 24 hours of the day. This song was later sung by Florence Ballard.
2. Tears On My Pillow (2:12) - The narrator of this moderately slow, 12/8 song cries every night over the girl, as evidenced by the title. If she would come back to him, he'd happily welcome her back right away. My favorite line from this song is "Love is not a gadget, love is not a toy." Indeed it hurts when treated as such.
3. Hurt So Bad (2:17) - The tempo is slightly faster than moderate. The girl is about to walk out on the narrator, and he begs her not to; he'll hurt a lot if she does. From the line "I can't let you go back to him," I infer that she's leaving him for some guy she loved before. I've also heard a version of this song by Linda Ronstadt.
4. I Miss You So (2:34) - This slow song opens with a crescendo of orchestral string instruments; every now and then they flutter up and down to illustrate sadness. As the title indicates, the narrator feels sad now that the girl has left him. He misses the hours they used to spend together, her caresses, and her voice.
5. Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop (2:07) - After three straight songs of sadness, here's something to lift the mood up. Instruments include a saxophone. From the phrase "native hut," I infer the setting must be Papua New Guinea or Africa or an Indian reservation. The narrator is mesmerized by a native girl when she shows him the dance named in the title. So mesmerized, in fact, that he's glad he's not married. This is my favorite of this group's songs, for the moderate dance tempo.
6. I'm On The Outside Looking In (3:05) - Now we're back to sad songs. The tempo is slow and in 12/8 time. The narrator walked out on the girl some time ago. Now he wants her love again, only to find that she's found a new man. Until he can be "back on the inside," he'll wait for her.
7. Take Me Back (2:33) - This moderate-tempoed song features orchestral strings and chimes; the drums play so softly I can barely hear them. The theme here is similar to that in the previous song: the narrator wants the girl to take him back. This time, the reason he left in the first place is clear: he was excessively jealous. Now that he realizes she wasn't the kind to be untrue, he kneels before her, begging, "Scold me, hurt me, hold me." Shortly before the 2-minute mark, the key goes up a half-step.
8. Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind (2:39) - The tempo is moderate. This and both subsequent songs feature horns. The narrator may be out of the girl's mind as well as sight. But for him, the story is different: she's out of his sight but is always stuck in his mind.
9. The 10 Commandments Of Love (3:03) - This remake of a Moonglows tune has a 12/8 tempo slightly faster than the original.
10. Help Me Find A Way (To Say I Love You) (3:08) - This album has come full circle. As in the first song, the narrator is at a loss for words to say to the girl he loves. The opening lines, "Every time you walk out the door / I'm so afraid I won't see you no more," are too good to paraphrase. But if he does find a way to express his feelings, perhaps he can get her to stay.
