ZZ Bird
(Simulated flyer shooting)
This is a hunting/live bird shooting simulation type of game. An
array of from 5 to 9 special target traps are positioned along a line in
front of the shooter, from 25 to 35 yards away. The targets are special
metal propeller-type units with a plastic center "cap." The traps
spin the propeller units to over 5000 rpm. A random release from
any one of the traps is performed under computer control. The targets
accelerate away from the traps in an erratic flight path, up to 40 mph.
A low fence encircles the trap layout, and the shotgunner must hit the
flying target and knock the plastic center cap off such that it falls within
the bounds of the low fence (which is typically 20 to 30 yards from the
trap units. This can be an extremely challenging game. Tightly
choked 12 gauge guns with long barrels and heavy loads of 7½ size
shot are typically used.
We hope to have a ZZ Bird field at Skyline
Gun Club within the next two years. If you are interested in
ZZ Bird shooting, please contact us
with your input. We need more interest before we can expend the $12,000+
to put in the system.
