Gregg Smith is an award winning writer, brewer and beer enthusiast. As a beer journalist his work has appeared in scores of publications. He was named 1996 Beer Writer of the Year 1st runner-up by the North American Guild of Beer Writers. A recipient of five "Quill and Tankard" awards, he is a sought after speaker for beer lectures, dinners, and judge training sessions. Speaking assignments include the Smithsonian, the Culinary Institute of America, the Great American Beer Festival, beer distributors, Beer Camp, upscale restaurants, and homebrewing clubs. Media appearances have included spots on national and international television and radio.
A noted Beer Historian, and beer styles reviewer, he travels extensively researching, writing and speaking about beer and brewing. He is author of "The Beer Enthusiast's Guide" from Storey Communications of Pownal, VT and "Beer: A History" by Avon books (a Division of Hearst Publishing), which received a Silver "Quill and Tankard" award.
Mr. Smith's credentials as a beer judge include the rank of National judge. He has also served on the board of the Beer Judge Certification Program (1995) and is currently an Associate Director of the program. Gregg judged at the Great American Beer Festival in 1994, '95 and '96, and looks forward to returning yet again. He also serves as Director of the Mountain Brewers Beer Fest.
Writing positions and assignments have been as wide and varied as the beers of the world. Mr. Smith is a partner in, and Managing Editor of, the "Beer & Tavern Chronicle", a monthly beer publication. He is field editor of the "Northern Rockies Brew Review" and a guest editor for "Yankee Brew News". He is a staff writer for "All About Beer", "The Pint Post", and "Rocky Mountain Brews." Mr. Smith also consults to the brewing and beverage industry.
