PACK 6 POLICIES
1. Pack 6 policies will always comply with the national policies of the Boy Scouts of America, as found in the Cub Scout Leader Book.
2. Any of the following policies can be changed by a majority vote of those present at any Pack Committee meeting.
3. The Pack Committee consists of all registered Pack leaders, including the Cubmaster. Assistant Cubmaster(s), Den Leaders, Assistant Den Leaders, Tiger Den Coach, Den Leader Coach, Committee members, and the Pack Committee Chairman. The Pack Committee will be responsible for all committee functions listed in the Cub Scout Leader Book. The Chartered Organization Representative is always invited to attend and parents are always welcome.
4. The Pack Committee meets the Sunday after the pack meeting ( except for holidays) at 7:00 pm at Trinity UMC. Pack 6 den meetings and pack meetings are held at the church on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, September through May.
5. Any boy in grades one through five is eligible to join Pack 6, regardless of race, creed, color, religion, ability to pay dues, or Idaho Falls residency. The only requirement is a willingness to live in accordance with the Cub Scout Promise. All boys, including those with disabilities, will be asked to "do their best."
6. Den dues are $5.10 per month/$61.00 per year per boy, to be collected (preferably) in a lump sum at the beginning of the Scout year (September through August) or when the boy is registered with the pack. Dues include a $10 subscription to Boys Life. Dues can be paid in installments and scholarships are available for families that are unable to pay the dues at all. All Dues and Boys' Life subscription money will be collected, recorded, and deposited by the Pack Treasurer into the Pack 6 checking account. Dues will be used for national BSA registration for each boy, pack insurance, leader registration and program materials, awards, den activities, crafts, Boys Life and summer activities (if possible).
7. Money-raising projects will be scheduled to supply funds for pack expenses not covered by the dues. Pack 6 will participate in the annual national BSA popcorn sale each October. All boys will be encouraged, but not required, to participate. Additional money-raising projects may be added as needed.
8. Boys in the pack will be grouped together into dens by school grade. Boys in first grade are eligible to be Tiger Scouts and must be joined each week by a parent or other adult family member. Boys in second grade are considered Wolf Cub Scouts, third grade boys are Bears, and boys in fourth and fifth grade are Webelos Scouts. The pack will try to limit each den to no more than eight boys. Each den must have two registered Scout leaders, who should attend training workshops put on by the District or Council.
9. Parents are responsible to provide a Cub Scout shirt and neckerchief, book or Tiger packet, and required patches. Tigers wear an orange tee shirt, Cubs wear the blue Cub Scout shirt, and Webelos may wear either the blue Cub Scout shirt or the khaki Boy Scout shirt. The required patches are: the American flag and pack number (6) for all Scouts, and also the Grand Teton shoulder patch, Scouting in the Round, and den number for Cubs and Webelos. The National Brotherhood of Scouting patch is optional. Additional uniform pieces (hat, pants, socks, etc.) are optional. Scouts are expected to wear their uniform shirts to den meetings. When the pack has received donated used uniform shirts, these may be given to boys whose families cannot afford new uniform shirts.
10. The pack will purchase the following awards for any Cub Scout that earns them: beads for Tigers, Progress Toward Rank kits for Wolves and Bears, monthly segments for Wolf and Bear Scouts, rank badges (Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos) with the corresponding "Mother's pin," activity badges (pins) for Webelos, Scout Month patches, Sport or Academic belt loops and/or pins, and the uniform patch for the religious award (parents are responsible to order the pin and to buy the workbook in the first place). The pack will buy trophy skins for Webelos moving up to Boy Scouts and will buy neckerchiefs for graduating Cubs in May.
11 . Cub Scouts will be encouraged to earn their rank advancement (Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos) during the school year. Den Leaders will not be held responsible for advancement requirements that must be completed at home with the boys' parents, but will encourage and counsel the parent(s) of any boy who is not progressing toward rank advancement. Those boys not completing the requirements for rank advancement by the May pack meeting may be given the summer to do so at the discretion of the Cubmaster. Boys who do not complete the requirements in the given time may not go back to earn that rank, but must move on to work on the next rank advancement.
12. Pack 6 will comply with the following safety policies: Parents may drop off their boys in the parking lot before den meetings, but must watch to make sure the boy enters the building. Parents must come into the building at the end of den meetings to let the Den Leaders know that they are taking their boys home. During any Scouting meeting or event, two adults must be present at all times, no exceptions. At least one adult must accompany each boy to pack meetings. All field trips must be pre-scheduled and health and permission forms must be used, unless the Scout is accompanied by his parent. Unsafe activities or unsafe conditions for ( usually safe) activities will not occur, as described by "Guide to Safe Scouting," available from the Scout Office.
WELCOME TO PACK 6!
Pack 6 is sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church as a community program.
All boys are welcome regardless of religion or race. We meet at the church every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, September through May. During the summer, we have at least one activity per month. The Pack holds a monthly planning meeting (generally the Sunday after a pack meeting). Parents are always welcome at these meetings.
Cub Scouts are boys in grades 1 through 5, grouped together in dens by school grade. Boys in first grade are eligible to be Tiger Scouts and must be joined each week by a parent or other adult family member. Boys in second grade are Wolves, third grade boys are Bears, and fourth and fifth grade boys are Webelos. Each den must have two registered Scout Leaders (usually parents), who should attend training workshops put on by the Scouting Office. During any Scouting event, 2 adults must be present at all times, without exception. All field trips must be pre-scheduled and health forms and permission slips must be used.
You are responsible to provide a Cub Scout shirt, book or Tiger packet, and required patches. Tigers wear an orange tee shirt, Cubs wear a blue Cub Scout shirt, and Webelos can wear either the blue Cub Scout shirt or the khaki Boy Scout shirt.
Required patches are: the American flag and pack number for all Scouts, and also the Grand Teton Council patch, Scouting in the Round, and den number for Cubs and Webelos. The National Brotherhood of Scouting patch is optional.
We collect dues from each Scout to cover National Scout registration, insurance, leader registration, awards, den activities, and crafts. We ask you to pay $5.10 per month to cover these expenses. We ask that you pay one year at a time, September through August ($61) as soon as you can. The dues amount for second-year Webelos will be prorated ($35.70, assuming that the boys will be joining a Boy Scout troop in March). This can be paid by check, payable to Cub Scout Pack 6, at one time or in installments if necessary. There is a scholarship program for boys not able to pay. Just contact a committee member.
If dues are not paid by the October pack meeting (either yearly or monthly), awards may be held until dues are paid or other arrangements are made. A subscription to the Boys Life magazine is $10 per year can be included in the dues check. Try to have at a copy of Boys Life in each home.
Pack 6 encourages the boys to earn the religious award for their faith. Awards can also be earned for sports or academics. Ask your den leader for more information.
Cub Scouting is a family event, and Pack 6 depends on your support and time for success. Once again, Welcome to Pack 6!
