The Packages



Three-day Package (4 nights and 3 days):

First Day - Selection of equipment. The system: rod, reel, fly line, leader, fly, and hand. Knots that work (attaching backing to reel, backing to fly line, line to leader, leader to leader, leader to fly). Casting techniques and strategies. Practice outside.

Second Day - The trout and its environment (fundamentals of population dynamics). Food organisms of lakes and streams (collection/identification in pond and canal). Fly tying - four patterns of flies that work. Tying/practice in office.

Third Day - Necessities vs. luxuries (gadgets that work). Specialized equipment. Safety and precautions. Practice on fly tying and casting. Closure mid-afternoon.


Four-day Package (5 nights and 4 days):

Curriculum and topical materials same as Three-day Package.

Fourth Day - Either guided float trip on Snake River (School arranges day-long trip with Drifters) or special instruction on fishing for other game fishes.

Specialized fly fishing equipment (rods, reels, fly lines, and leaders). Common vs. alien strategies. Advanced casting techniques. Do's and Don'ts. Closure mid-afternoon.


Five-day Package (6 nights and 5 days):

Curriculum and topical materials same as Three- and Four-day Packages.

Fifth Day - Guided float trip on Snake River (School arranges day-long trip with Drifters).


The cost of each package, schedules of sessions during the summer of 2000 (six sessions are planned), registration forms, and a highway map to the school from Idaho Falls are included in a brochure available upon request.
