About the Logo and Photographs
In cultures of southwestern Indians, the rattlesnake is a messenger,
communicating wishes and concerns of the people to gods of the underworld.
Native Americans living in arid and semiarid environments always have been
concerned about the continued availability of water. Markings on the back
and rattles at the end of the tail of the rattlesnake symbolize running water.
Because the rattlesnake hunts on the surface by night and retreats to the
underworld by day, it daily reminds gods of the underworld that people of
the surface need water.
The Snake River and most of its tributaries flow through desert or desert-like environments. The water sustains life in and about the river, providing society with a way of life and recreationists with a blue-ribbon trout fishery. It is only fitting that the logo of the Snake River School of Fly Fishing depict the importance of the rattlesnake in Indian culture and symbolize the Snake River meandering through part of the State of Idaho. The Snake River School of Fly Fishing encourages every participant to practice techniques taught in class on trout in the pond and nearby canal, and, after a day of instruction, enjoy breathtaking sunsets from the porch or comfort of the lodge. And, yes, there are large Brown and Rainbow Trout in the pond! ![]() 752 N 3750 E, Rigby, Idaho 83442 208-754-4868 |
