A. The Planning Process

A. The Planning Process Initial Development of Holy Rosary’s Educational Technology Plan Holy Rosary is a medium-size Catholic School in Idaho Falls, Idaho established in 1921 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. The school received state approval in 1977 and began operating with a “lay” staff when the Sisters withdrew in 1987. A brief description of Holy Rosary School is provided in Table 1. .

Overview of Holy Rosary School

During the 1998/1999 school year, the Holy Rosary teaching staff (the Staff), the Holy Rosary School Board (the Board), and parents of Holy Rosary students began to explore opportunities for school growth, particularly in the areas of curriculum development, physical-plant improvements, and extra-curricular activities.

To help ensure the appropriateness of both the direction and measure of school growth, the Pastor and the Principal (the Administrative Team) and members of the Board conducted an in-depth survey of parents and held a series of public meetings with Holy Rosary parents and Staff. In addition, the Principal and members of the Staff engaged in numerous formal and informal discussions concerning ways in which the school programs and facilities might be improved while maintaining the school’s high standards of quality education for its students.

Results from these surveys, meetings, and discussions suggested the need for modernization of educational technology available at Holy Rosary School. Further, the results indicated that the integration of educational technology into the school curriculum at both the primary and intermediate grade levels would be an appropriate and effective mechanism for improving the quality of education available to Holy Rosary students.

Based on these findings, the Principal and members of the Staff began to informally plan for technology integration. New hardware and software was purchased and installed; equipment in the computer lab was upgraded. Staff members began to explore options for professional development and training related to the use of educational technology in the classroom.

Before the beginning of the 1999/2000 school year, a group of individuals was selected to represent the various constituencies of the school, based on the guidelines provided in the J.A. & Kathryn Albertson Foundation Non-Public School Technology Plan Format. The Educational Technology Planning Committee (the Committee) was formed and began formal meetings and discussions to develop the Educational Technology Plan (the Plan) for Holy Rosary School.
