Non-Catholic enrollment is 344,397 which is 13.2% of the total enrollment. There are 8,114 Catholic schools; of these 6,886 were elementary/middle, and 1,228 were secondary. 3,477 schools have a waiting list for admission. Full-time equivalent professional staff numbered 155,658: laity 94.2%, religious/clergy 5.8%: lay women: 75.0%; lay men: 19.2%; sisters: 4.4%; brothers 0.07%; priests 0.07% The student/teacher ratio is 17:1.
