Education Dollars versus Student Achievement

Recently, Idaho Falls School District #91 published its yearly report, an excellent resource for our families, for one day many of our children will most-likely attend school in District #91 when they graduate from Holy Rosary.

Within the District #91 report, it was estimated that during the 1999-2000 school year, the per student expenditure was approximately $4,900. At the same time, District #91 has maintained a strong Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) performance at the 70th percentile for Grades 3-6, sitting 18 percentiles above the state average percentile of 52.

By comparison, although our families pay tuition to attend Holy Rosary, the per student expenditure at Holy Rosary for 2000 was $3019, and is estimated for 2001 at $2970. Yet our students Grades 3-6 not only performed at the 75th percentile in 2000, but also made a 9-percentile improvement to the 84th percentile in 2001. These per student expenditures bode well for Holy Rosary and Catholic Education in eastern Idaho.

2002-2003 Estimates

District #91 $5300-$5500

Holy Rosary @ 160 students $4150—should affect
achievement levels significantly—assessment of student achievement and instruction applying Effective Schools

Well done teachers, parents, and students!
