Hong Kong Cowboy:
I purchased this at an auction a while back with the shrink wrap still on the set. While it might not have actually come from Hong Kong , it is a knock off for sure. I was a bit skeptical when I was bidding on it, wondering whether if I won the bid at a high price that I might see big bins of them next month at Sams Warehouse or similar establishment. The person I purchased it from told me they had picked it up four or five years ago at a flea market and haven’t seen one since. Me either.

Someday I might take the cellophane off of it but for now, I will have to examine it through the packaging. The horse appears to be glued to the red plate at the bottom. The accessories are in a plastic bag at the bottom. All of the dots, tassles, and filigree on the Champ style figure have been eliminated. The molded-in martingale is quite a bit simplified compared to most Hartland and Breyer horses. The hat on this one is black but it is identical to several brown ones I have managed to collect over the years. It is soft and rubbery. The two black pistols are quite a bit larger than any Hartland gun and have steer heads molded into the handles (at least it appears that way through all the plastic wrapping). The saddle is also a softer plastic, almost rubbery, too. It does have a little bit of detailing.

This ad came out of the Wisconsin Deluxe Company wholesale catalog from around 1955. I honestly can’t say who made this set. Hartland large Champ style horse have the mane on the right but they do have the large wavy tail. They mention a cinch which is not that common on any Hartland Champ style saddle but many Breyer saddles do have the cinch strap. The bead chain is typical of Hartland pieces. I’ve never seen a bronze Large Champ Hartland set, so I am inclinded to think it is a Breyer piece.

Big Cowboy:
This figure is 9" tall, and made out of a lightweight plastic. Overall, he looks pretty good until you put the rubbery hat on him...then he looks like a dork! The pistol in his right hand is fairly large and made of a softer plastic than the figure.

I have no clue at this time who made this figure, nor what his horse would have looked like.
