Hartland Religious Figures & Misc. Statues

The focus of this site has always been on Hartland Westerns—Horse and Riders and Gunfighters. In the fall of 2000, a group of us worked on the Mastercrafters Clock history. That effort led us back to the Religious Figures, especially in relation to the historical mold marks used by Hartland Plastics. Since that time, I have been adding quite a few of the Religious sets and individual figures. In the latter part of the 50s and early 60s, Hartland branched out a bit more and added quite a few small statues which were oftern used as cake decorations and trinkets. This page indexes links larger pages dedicated to each.

Page under construction!
This is a fairly new section for the site and it is just now taking shape. I have quite a few more statues to ad to each page, plus more text to go with them. Each of these pages will grow as I get new photos! By Christmas of 2002, I hope to have this section filled in.

Hartland Related Literature
If finding old literature related to the Westerns isn't hard enough, finding any literature related to the Religious and Novelty pieces is next to impossible! It is apparent by the information in the Classified Directory of Wisconsin Manufacturers yearly books that Hartland was making Religious statues in 1950, and probably before that. A few clues come from Christmas Catalogs and cake decorating catalogs. To date, the only known dealer documents consist of three pages, listed below. Thanks to Hartland Collectibles, LLC for making these three sheets available to this site.

Hartland Nativity Set Instructions
Underneath the false bottom of some Nativity sets was a single sheet of paper with a little bit of Nativity information, plus a diagram for setting up all the pieces in the sets. They are quite scarce, so I doubt all sets got them. Thanks for Bruce Schwartz for sharing his sheet with this site.
Chart of Catalogs, Ads, & Magazines
Click Here to go to an ongoing chart of known advertisements, catalogs, articles, or showings of Hartland products, arranged by year. This chart includes Westerns and some Sports items as well.
Maid of Scandinavia Catalogs
Maid of Scandinavia was a Minnesota based mail order catalog company that sold quite a few of the Hartland pieces. Since I have been able to find quite a few catalogs with color photos, I created a special page for them. Click Here to view an informative and colorful new page.
