Some things you can do besides writing politicians...

Show up at campaign rallies

Ask how a candidate stands on stricter control of private data. Ask if he/she has accepted contributions from credit bureaus and collection firms. Ask if they are aware the credit reports of politicians get special attention and if they support laws to prohibit it. Ask how they voted on recent amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act and if they were involved in diluting the original amendment down. Ask if they believe local government should be able to impose stricter standards than the federal law.

Let Us Know About Local Issues

Does your city cooperate with Credit Bureaus by giving their spies behind the scene access to court records? Does your traffic department sell data from parking meter collection activities to the bureaus? Let us know!
