A Field Guide to Spiders and Scorpions of Texas: This 1997 field guide was written by John A. Jackman. It is available as a paperback and has 312 pages. This regional field guide is useful to those
interested in the arachnids of Texas and the southcentral/southwestern United States.
The Common Spiders of the United States: By James Henry Emerton, this 1961 identification guide contains descriptions and drawings of many common U.S. spiders and is considered a classic spider field guide,
a must for serious arachnid buffs and collectors of older spider literature.
How To Know the Spiders: By Benjamin Julian Kaston, 1972; this hardcover "How To Know" guide to U.S. spiders is comprehensive, and is one of the most useful guides available.
Hundreds of drawings, descriptions and keys are found within it's 272 pages.

Identifying Spiders: The New Compact Study Guide and Identifier: A new guide and identifier by Ken Preston-Marfhan.
Not yet reviewed by Eagle Rock Research, but appears to be a promising new tool.

National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders: A popular field guide which contains color photographs and information on spiders and insects.
This guide is a hardcover, published in 1980; 989 pages.

Spiders and Their Kin: This little "Golden Guide" (1990) by Herbert W. and Lorna R. Levi is very likely the most popular field identification book ever written on North American spiders. Full color illustrations of many common species are found throughout the book.
This book is for everyone, from the budding spider collector to the professional arachnologist.

The Biology of Scorpions: This excellent 1990 reference book on scorpions is edited by Gary A. Polis. It's 12 chapters are comprehensive, and it's 587 pages are filled with drawings, photographs, tables and other data, making it one of the finest texts ever written on scorpions.
This book is for persons seriously interested in scorpion biology.

BOOKS ON SPIDERS

Biology of Spiders: A new book (1998) on general spider biology by Rainer F. Foelix. This book is receiving excellent reviews from it's readers, and is a good one
to add to any book collection.

The Book of the Spider: A Compendum of Arachno-Facts and Eight-Legged Lore: A spider book by Paul Hillyard. This book covers facts about arachnids, as well as myth and lore;
It is a good general book on spiders.

The Book of the Spider: From Arachnophobia To the Love of Spiders: A 1996 spider book by Paul Hillyard; hardcover This book has chapters on arachnophobia, folklore, myth and literature, aeronautic spiders, venomous spiders, remarkable spiders, webs and silk, discovering spiders in South America, as well as history and conservation of spiders.
Readers of this book have given it high marks!
The Natural History of Spiders: This treatise, by Ken Mafham-Preston and Rod Mafham-Preston, contains chapters on spider structure and physiology, classification, feeding, egg-laying and parental care,
as well as defensive behavior and ecology. A good general overview of spiders, and their natural history.
The Spider Genus Loxosceles in North America, Central America, and the West Indies (Araneae, Loxoscelidae): This 1983 paperback by arachnologists Willis J. Gertsch and Franklin Ennik is for individuals seriously interested in the recluse spiders (genus Loxosceles). This book, originally published by the American Museum of Natural History, provides detailed scientific descriptions of all North and Central American Recluse Spiders (known till 1983), as well as drawings, range maps and data regarding the same. It is comprehensive in scope, not intended for lay reading, but a very important publication for arachnologists and those seeking scientific
details about Loxosceles spiders.
Spiders of the World: This is a 1984 hardcover by Rod Mafham-Preston and Ken Mafham-Preston.
This is a 191 page general overview of the world's spiders.
Spiders: Webs, Behavior and Evolution: This 1986 hardcover by William A. Shear
covers aspects of web building, spider behaviors, and spider evolution. Not yet reviewed by Eagle Rock Research.
