August
Meeting Minutes
By Bev Novak
The August meeting was held at Me & Stans in
Rexburg on August 8, 2000. Me & Stans is a
good sponsor of the Wild West Vette Fest. There were 34 members at the meeting.
The Club wants to have meetings at the major sponsors if possible. Next month's
meeting will be at Taco Time in Rexburg on September
19 at 7 p.m. We will meet at the old Fred Meyers parking lot and leave at
6:15 p.m.
The Wild West Vette Fest is going well. Members need to register soon. We
would like everyone to donate a door prize. Jack Larsen said that
Western Bank would contribute some. The poker run
needs a few more people to help. There will be a Dutch-oven dinner again
and a band on Friday night. There will be a poker walk, poker run, and driving
event. There will be a photographer there.
We had a couple of new members at the meeting. Welcome Ron and Peggy Bone
and Rick Stiles to our club.
Farrell Davidson is planning another weekend trip. This time it will be to
Bozeman, Helena, and then home. This will be the weekend of October 6, 7,
and 8. Farrell will get the information together for the motels. (Farrell
will retire September 20. Congratulations Farrell!!!)
Betty McKinlay would like to thank everyone for donating funds for her and
her daughter's trip to Europe. Her daughter took fourth place in the high
jump at two different meets.
Sam said the Boise show was a lot of fun and encouraged members to go next year. (See Boise Show in this issue.)
New Parents
Steve and Becky Hadlock are the parents of a new (to them) 1963
Split Window, number matching Corvette. It's white with red interior and
in mint condition. CONGRATULATIONS to the new parents.

Retirement
Reception
There will be a retirement reception in honor of Farrell Davidson, Public Works Director of Rexburg, on September 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rexburg City Hall, 12 North Center, Rexburg. I'd like to extend an invitation to all club members to come wish him well. Love to see you there.

Help Deeply Appreciated
Mandy and I would like to express our thanks to the Corvette Club for donating
the money to help with our trip to Spain and France. We had a wonderful time,
met new friends, but we were glad to get back to the States.
We went with the World Sports Exchange, Track and Field. There were 90 in
our group counting student athletes, parents, and coaches. Track meets were
held in Barcelona, Spain and in Paris, France.
Mandy felt good about placing fourth in the high jump at both meets, even
though she didn't get a medal. Medals were given only to the first three
places.
It was a good experience and we even got to see the World and Olympic Champions
compete in France. We did some sightseeing and some shopping.
Thank you so much for helping with this one chance in a lifetime opportunity.

Iona Days
There was a turnout of 12 cars at the Iona Days parade, four of which were
Corvettes. Club members who helped were Bill Waters, Bev and Brian Novak,
and Randy and Joyce Wagner. Val Ball stopped in on his way home from a family
reunion. Their help was appreciated.
Iona Days was a success. Keep it in mind for next year. It always falls on
the week around the 24th of July.
Thanks to Wayne and Pam Valentine, Jack and Susan Larsen, and Farrell and
Darlene Davidson for volunteering to help us with the Poker Run at Wild West
Vette Fest.

Activities Successful
By Janet Miller
There were four cars in the Jefferson County Stampede Parade at Rigby on
June 10. They were Brenda Floyd and her daughter Kelsey; Thor Miller, Neil
Floyd, and his daughter Brittany; Randy Wagner and his daughter; Ken and
Linda Olsen; and Janet Miller. It was a big parade and a lot of fun.
There were 15 cars at the 4th of July Parade in Rexburg. It was
a great showing of cars but a little cold and windy that day. Showing cars
were Sam and Janet Miller and Malysa and Niquelle Baxter from California;
Thor Miller; Trish Bargman; Tim Walsh; Val Ball and son; Bill Waters; Dale
Larsen; Farrell Davidson; Marvin and Mary Kay Bennett; Ken and Linda Olsen;
Wayne Valentine and granddaughter Whitney from Arizona; Jack Larsen; Dale
Nickell; Phil Parkinson; and the Millers (not related) driving the Jim Horkley
car.
The Taylor Chevrolet show was held July 15 with 51 cars registered from a
Model A Ford right up to a 2000 Vette. There were 20 Corvettes! What a display
of beautiful cars! I will try to list everyone who was there with a Vette.
Thor Miller, Wayne Valentine, Brian and Bev Novak, Carol Merrell and
Grandchildren; Steve and Becky Hadlock; Ken and Linda Olsen; Dick and Trish
Bargman; Rick Stiles; Lynn and Betty McKinlay; Fred and Wanda Hughes; Val
Ball and son; Bud and Betty Elliott; Richard and and Debbie Morris; Mike
and Wanda Pincock; Brian Meuller; Bud Cullum; Dale and Shawna Nickell; and
Sam and Janet Miller.
David Taylor cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, and there were plenty
of door prizes. There was a total of 15 trophies awarded, five going to
Corvettes. Corvette trophy winners were Trish Bargman, Rick Stiles, Fred
and Wanda Hughes, Ken and Linda Olsen, and Bud and Betty Elliott. We all
cruised through Rexburg, Sugar City, and St. Anthony after the show. It was
fun cruising with so many cars of all makes, models, and years. We are going
to do it again next year because it was such a big hit with everyone. I want
to thank everyone for coming to the Taylor Chevrolet Show.
Boise Show
By Janet Miller
The Boise Vette Fest was held July 21 through 23 at the Doubletree Riverside
Hotel. Sam and I and Thor were the only representatives from our club. It
was very hot there but we had a great time.
There were many events. Thursday night for early arrivals there was a pool
party. Friday there was a road tour/poker run, then an auto-cross, and then
drag racing at Firebird Raceway. Saturday morning was the Show and Shine
in Julia Davis Park. A 1963 Corvette was given away. Then there was a picnic
in Ann Morrison Park and twilight Parade through Boise for one hour.
We cruised with about 300 cars. What a rush! That night there was a live
band and dancing to 50's and 60's music and plenty of door prizes given out.
I have never seen so many poodle skirts, black leather jackets, hippie wigs,
and bobby socks. Sunday was the brunch in the banquet room at the hotel and
Rex Spjute, a four-year-old boy, sang the Star Spangled Banner. They had
three Corvettes parked right in the banquet room.
Speakers were Wendell Strode, director of the National Corvette Museum and
Dick Guldstrand of Guldstrand Engineering. They were set up for 400 people
and it was full. They gave out 144 trophies of which we took two. Thor got
third place in his class and Sam and I got second place in our class.
We had to drive through a range fire complete with a helicopter dropping
water, but the three-day event was worth it. We made new friends and visited
with old friends. We met people from Texas, Missouri, California, and Canada.
The Canadians told Sam how Canada got it name. They put all the letters in
the alphabet in a box and a guy drew out the letter C and showed it to the
crowd and said, "C aye". Then drew another letter and said, "N aye". Then
drew out another letter and said, "D aye". And that is how Canada got its
name. Aye!
Occasionally . . .
By Ben Sanchez
Corvettes are a rare sit in Bella Napoli (Beautiful Naples). So are the exoticars
Italy is famous for like Ferrari, Masserati, and Lamborghini. From time to
time you catch a glimpse of one, usually screaming by in excess of 200 Kph
(+125 mph) on an autostrada. (Contrary to popular belief not all Ferrari's
are red just most of them.) But occasionally you will see a Corvette.
These have usually been imported by Americans stationed here and for the
most part are C4 versions. I've seen a few "sharks" and one C5 convertible.
I've even talked to a few owners and they love to drive their cars here having
only one complaint where do I get it repaired?
Corvette camaraderie spans time, distance, and cultural differences, and
it makes me feel good to be a small part of it.
Did You Know
By Egon Lamprecht
As Connie and I were driving home from Salt Lake City in the Vette, I got
to thinking, "Here I am in white pants and white/blue shirt, what a good
time to get in trouble with Connie by changing a flat tire." Let me tell
you, it's BIG trouble if I get white pants dirty!" This brings up why I am
writing this.
How many of you have had to use your spare tire on your Corvette? How many
have even looked at the spare in, say, the last five years (still got air
in it?)? When you own a C4, or for that matter any model except the C5 with
the run-flat tires, it's a major effort to change a tire. May I strongly
recommend that the you take some time to go through the motions in the driveway
at home.
Let's use Connie's Vette for example. I'm not going into exact detail; you
need to do that.
One: find the lug wrench and jack (you say where the hell is it?).
Two: Now get the spare out! They paid some engineer big bucks to hide
it. It takes a long wrench to remove the bolt holding the pan that holds
the tire up under the car.
Three: Now comes the part that gets Connie very mad. You are going
to get dirty I mean real dirty getting under the rear of the
car to get the #@%&* spare out.
I recommend that right now you place three plastic leaf bags in your car
for future use; they don't take up much space and may keep you clean.
Now that you have removed the spare, jack up the car. The jack goes at the
marked place just by the wheel on the side. A small arrow marks the spot.
Before you lift the car, loosen the lug nuts. Ah ha, you find one different.
(You don't want a crook to steal the wheels do you?) So now you need the
little special adapter that goes in the lug wrench. This is the most important
tool in your life right now. Without it, you are not going to get the wheel
off nor will the AAA man you called to change the tire for you. Make
sure you know where this little adapter is at all times.
We have now changed the tire; now how the heck do you get the flat back in
the rack? You notice that the flat is larger than the rinky-dink spare you
took out! Let the pan down to the second notch and that will allow the bigger
flat tire to fit.
You C5 owners with run-flat tires just smile at us other Vetters as you drive
down the road.
Early Feedback from WWVF
Just had to drop you a line and tell you of the great time we had at the show this last weekend. We came home tired and extremely well entertained. We won one of your sponsor's trophies and in our excitement and confusion we failed to get their name and address so that we could send them a "Thank You". Could you help me out? It was Snake River IBA and they are members of your club. Please send me their names and address so that we can tell them how appreciative we are. Again, Thanks for a great time. We'll definitely come back.

We want to extend a note of appreciation your way and hope that you will
be our messenger to all in the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho club. Once again
we enjoyed your great hospitality and appreciated renewing old friendships
and experiencing new ones. As I mentioned before, our club usually goes in
all directions when discussing what events we should participate in; however,
the Wild West Vette Fest is never really mentioned in the discussion. It
is just a given that we will be including it as an annual event. This is
certainly due largely to the fact that your club puts on a top notch event
each year. Please relay to all your members our appreciation for the fine
time that we experienced. Even putting aside the accolades and honors bestowed
on our entry this year , we felt our weekend was a highlight of the summer,
and this includes the Black Hills Classic and Vettes on the Rockies. We are
certainly not meaning to belittle the honors we won at the event, because
these were truly appreciated, although somewhat unexpected because of the
quality of the displays this year. But the pleasure we received in participating
this year would not have diminished had we come home with only our memories
of the three day event.
Thanks again from the Shepovalofs (pronounced Shep...lof for Brian's benefit) and see you next year.
Hello Brian and Bev,
I am sure you don't recognize the name, but I am Frank Rozan. My wife and
I attended your "Wild West Vette Fest" over the weekend. What a great time
we had. We would like to personally thank each and everyone involved for
putting on a great show!
Is it possible for you to "E" the snail mail address for Relay Station? We
were awarded their sponsor award for excellence and wish to send them a thank
you card.
Also, I know it is not my place to suggest a band for next year's show, but
. . . there is a band from Helena, MT that is without a doubt the most perfect
band for this type of show. Their name is LITTLE ELMO AND THE NAMBO KINGS.
These guys play blues, boogie, swing. I have no idea what they charge.
Thank you again for putting on the Best Fest ever. Looking forward to next
year.
