Hail from the Chief

By Trish Bargman

September! That means we [I] got through August. Why is thatsuch a big deal? It means my wings are clipped, my freedom is gone, I have togo back to work. I know, not much sympathy out there, since I had 2-½ monthsoff. Well let’s get on with September; it has warm days, cool nights, and stillfairly long days, and we can still drive our cars.

At the last meeting we talked about taking a drive andhaving a picnic on September 8th. So the plan for Saturday is tomeet at old Fred Meyers parking lot at 9:00 a.m., take a drive over Piney Pass, then have a picnic at a park in Rexburg. Please bring your own utensils, drinks, and put a salad in a cooler. The club is buying the chicken andfurnishing the desserts. Since we are ordering food we need a head count. Please call or email me by Friday afternoon 458-4671, 351-2974, bargman@fairpoint.net.

We will take a group picture to give to the sponsors alongwith a shirt and thank-you letter. So let’s get an impressive group together.

Coming this Thursday the 6th is our night at Arby’s,but I have heard a lot of people say they are going to the fair to see Chicago; now you have twooptions for Thursday evening.

Our regular club meeting is Thursday night September 7th.We will be going to Big Jud’s. They are a sponsor, have greathamburgers, so it’s all good. You might want to meet at old Fred Meyers parkinglot at 6:25 p.m. and caravan up to Archer. The meeting is set for 7:00 p.m. Itwould be nice if we could give them an approximate number of people so againcould you email or call me please.

Thursday evening September 16th will be a greattime at Scotty’s. They are going to do a lot of advertising andhave band there! So tell your friends and neighbors and let’s have a greatturnout!

Now it is time to talk about our Wild West Vette Fest2007. It was a success; we had 100 cars. Bud and Betty Elliott came upSaturday afternoon and they were number 100. It always feels good to hit the100 mark. All the bills have not been paid, so we don’t know the exact amountof our profit, but it looks like we have plenty to do our Families atChristmas again and still have operating expenses for the next year.

I can’t even begin to say enough about everyone that pitchedin and worked so hard.

Not everyone was a club member. Tim and Wendy broughtfriends and family with them and they helped wherever they were needed. Theylaid out the poker run and took care of a stop, helped sell raffle tickets, setthings up and take things down. Tim, please tell them how grateful we are fortheir help.

Bill and Dana had everything so organized, and the peoplethat they lined up to do registration, sell shirts, take care of food andraffles, that everything went smooth. We were all so sorry that you could notbe there to see how well everything went. Take care of that hand Bill. Thanksfor all you did.

Okay here goes the part that I have been avoiding. I am soafraid that I will forget to mention someone. Here goes my best shot:

Tommy and Allyson -- you were amazing! The raffles, silentauctions, door prizes, and driving event, bringing your truck to haul things, which meant you didn’t even have one of your Corvettes up there. Couldn’t havedone it without you. Many thanks.

Rich and Linda, Bev, Erin, Bob and Yvonne did registrationand sold shirts. There were lots of things to keep track of: coupons, waivers, parade signup, packets, bags, etc., and you made it look easy. Thank you.

Ron and Peggy, you out-did yourselves with the food again. You had new ideas and everyone enjoyed it. Thank you.

Parade: We had kids in the Big Sister, Big Brother organizationride in some of the cars. What a thrill it was for them. That was a great ideaBill. Thanks to everyone that helped line up and get everyone organized.

Tommy did the Fun Kana Driving Event with the help of Doug,Paul, Ben, Dick, Dale and Deana, Wayne and Pam, Bob and Yvonne, and Ron andPeggy. Lots of time in the sun and wind, but the participants loved it and hada good time.

Poker Run: Tim & Wendy with their family and friends,Thor, Bill and Emily, Jim and Judy, Brian and Bev, everyone had a good time, and bought a lot of cards. It was a success. Thanks. Bill, your bonus card stopwas a great idea.

1/8 Mile Drags: Paul, Doug, Tim Carlson, and Tim took careof this event. It turns out it was the hit of the show! I think it will be apart of the show from now on. You all did a great job and thanks. Well Bill, you were right again, another good idea.

The Show ‘N’ Shine: Doug, Paul, and Tim Carlson, took careof the parking. Tommy and Allyson set up the raffles; Bob and Yvonne took careof the remaining shirts and helped Doug set out the trophies. Ron and Peggytook care of the continental breakfast. Dick, Ben, and Dale helped pick outcars for sponsors that could not be there. The hardest and probably mostimportant job of the day went to Bev, Erin, and Donna. Jim you did a great jobannouncing everything. They counted the ballots and did a great job. Thanks toyou all.

I have to single out a few people. They were always there tohelp with whatever anyone needed. Dale and Deana brought up their traveltrailer for us to use. It is such a help to have a place to count the votes, orjust hide out. Tommy, to me you are the greatest -- if a show has a backbone, you are it. Doug you were the show’s right hand. Wayne and Jim were the voice.Paul you were the legs, always ready to run when asked. Bill and Dana you werethe heart and soul of the show. Tim and Wendy of course were the head. I’m veryproud of everyone that helped. Great Job Everyone!

Save the Wave!

Minutes from August Meeting

The Augustmeeting was held at the Stockman’s Restaurant, great food, we had approximately 20 members attend.

Plans for our showin West Yellowstone were discussed, and finaldetails were ironed out.  Tommy gave the details on the non-competitivedriving event, Bill talked on the poker run, Dana, Peggy, and Trish talkedon the food.  Things are shaping up, we still need volunteers to help atthe show.   If everybody helped just a little... get with oneof our clubofficers and volunteer a little time.

A show meeting will beheld at Gringos, in Idaho Falls, on Mondaythe 13th of August.

Scotty'snight in Idaho Fallswill be on the 16 of August, they will have a band, and we will befeatured on their marquee.

Our next meeting will beat Big Judd's in Archeron the 13th of September.

 Thanks, Doug

Wild West Vette Fest 2007

by Ben Sanchez

It has been 12 years since Corvettes of Southeast Idaho beganhosting Wild West Vette Fest in West Yellowstone, Montana.  Once again, the event provided a greatweekend for all those who participated. When you think about it, it’s not an easy task.

The early Saturday morning parade always seems to elicitfond memories from the sidelines.  Ihappened to be on the sidelines this year and heard some of the comments.  It seems as though almost everybody has somekind of Corvette memory in his or her past and are more than willing toshare it with whoever will listen.

This year the driving event was just a little tamer than inprevious years, but those who elected to participate really showed theircompetitive nature once they got over the initial jitters.  Now, I didn’t say it was boring and I mustadmit it was interesting to watch as drivers discovered ways to improve theirtime around the course.  After theso-called non-intensive driving event was winding down a couple blocks away thedrag racing was beginning to ramp up, but I don’t think it was any morespirited in the driver’s minds.   Inaddition to all this activity, the Poker Run was taking place allowing thosewho just wanted to see a little more of countryside a perfect opportunity.  By the time the dinner was ready, participants had renewed old friendships and probably gained a few new onesalso.  Let’s hope so, because that’s whatthe Corvette hobby is really about. While some leisurely strolled about the town, others were thoroughlyenjoying what the DJ was spinning along with their “adult” beverages.  Needless to say, Sum R having a lot offun on the dance floor (if you get my drift). I didn’t realize a stick horse and a hula-hoop could provide so muchentertainment and I’m not even going to say anything about the blow-up dollthat magically appeared later on in the evening.

What can I say about the cars?  They were well represented from vintage C1’sto the newest C6.  I know I’ve said itbefore, but I’d really like to know what the story is behind some of thesecars, particularly the older ones - if only they could talk.  It’s readily apparent that each owner hasspent many hours, not to mention money, making these cars look and perform theway they do.  In a word – they’re awesome!

One more time the show was a success and, hopefully, everyone there is looking forward to the next Wild West Vette Fest asmuch as I am.
