Minutes of the August 2002 Meeting
By Ron Bon
Johnny Carino’s restaurant hosted the monthly business meeting on August 14, 2002. Only 21 members turned out for dinner on the patio, which was much more pleasant than during the December 2001 meeting.
Vice President Bill Waters called the meeting to order at 8:25 P.M., asking for the status of preparations for Vette Fest 2002. Trish Bargman reported that registrations are currently over 90, and that the Gray Wolf Inn is full. Additional registrations are being referred to the Yellowstone Lodge. Linda Moore asked if someone would pull the club’s trailer to West Yellowstone and Mike Pincock volunteered. Amy Forman and Mike
Pincock said that volunteers are still needed for the driving event and the poker run.
Bev Novak said that she had paid the annual fee for the club’s web page, and asked if the club wanted to continue with the web page. All who spoke up were in favor. A motion was made for the club to reimburse Bev for the annual fee. The motion was carried.
It was noted again that we need to improve attendance at the monthly meetings. Johnny Carino’s is one of the club’s major sponsors and gave $250 up front, with the balance of the $500 sponsorship depending on the amount spent for dinner the night of the meeting. Folks, PLEASE support our sponsors by coming to our monthly meetings as well as the sponsor’s nights. We can’t expect to keep our sponsors if we don’t show our appreciation.
Bill read the sponsors listed in the July newsletter. The list in the August newsletter will be more complete. Be aware of who our sponsors are and patronize them when you need services.
Wayne Valentine said he would like to have the Sponsor’s Poker Run sometime in September, and asked members to recommend a date to him. Wayne went on to summarize the activities planned for the Taylor Chevrolet car show on August 17. It should be a great time.
The next monthly meeting was set for September 18, 2002 at the Rexburg Taco Time, beginning at 7:00 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
Taylor Chevrolet Show,
August 17th
by Janet Miller
What a show! Now just where can you get free food, door prizes, dash
plaques, go cart races, wet tee shirt contests, a chance to win over $100
if you guess the number of minutes it will take to blow up an engine (a Ford
of course), and then get to see an U.S. Army self-propelled 56-ton howitzer run
over a car -- and still have a chance to win a trophy? No
place but Taylor
Chevrolet in Rexburg. What a deal! Lots of interested public came to look at
the beautiful cars and enjoy the food and fun. The D.J. was great and so was
the music. We gave away 25 trophies, then we all cruised Rexburg and Sugar City.

Corvettes of Southeast Idaho trip to California (these dates are flexible by a day on either end) October 3rd to the 10th. Major things to see: Virginia City, Nevada and Lake Tahoe. We will stay one night in Lake Tahoe. One of 4 beautiful mountain passes will be used to reach the Monterey Peninsula. We can spend a day between Lake Tahoe and Monterey going to see the Giant Sequoia Redwoods if that is something we want to put in our schedule. In the Monterey Bay Area we will be able to see the Aquarium, Warf, and Cannery Row. We will stay in Monterey 2 nights. Carmel and its 17-mile drive are a possibility. On to Big Sur and highway 1 to Hearst Castle we will spend the night in San Simeon. From there it is on to Pismo Beach to spend the night or push on further towards Las Vegas, depending on our time constraints We will come home through Las Vegas. If you are interested in this trip please contact Trish at 458-4671. I would like to have an idea of how many rooms are needed and length of travel time that will be needed each day (that will be determined by the number of cars, the more people the more time each stop will take). I will be making a trip to California October 1st this year to start setting things up. So I will have more information on room rates and admission prices when I get back.

Planned Poker Run
By Trish Bargman
We will have a Poker Run visiting some of our Wild West Vette Fest sponsors during this month. Your calling tree people will get the word out to you as soon as the details are known. We have done this for several years now and it has been a great success and a lot of fun. See you there.
