Minutes of the November

2002 Meeting

By Peggy Bone

The monthly club meeting was held on the evening of November 20, 2002 at Winger’s Diner.  Eighteen members and four Corvettes attended.

Treasurer Debbie Morris called the meeting to order.  The first order of business was a discussion of the club Christmas Party, which is planned for December 10, 2002.  Two alternative locations to the previously suggested Mystique Restaurant were presented for consideration.  One, suggested by Trish Bargman, was to have the party at Central Elementary School in Sugar City.  Trish said she could prepare bread

bowls with chicken noodle soup.  She will check with the principal to see if we can use the school.  The other alternative was to have the party at the Relay Station.  No decision was reached at the meeting.

Trish then updated the members on Christmas shopping for the eleven families adopted by our club.  Egon Lamprecht is looking for some needy seniors to add.  Plans are to meet on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at 9:00 A.M. at the Idaho Falls ShopKo.  Volunteers are urgently needed to help with the shopping; please contact Trish (458-4671) if you can come.  Bev and Brian Novak have offered their home for the wrapping party after the shopping blitz is over.

Debbie brought up the need for President Randy Wagner to appoint a nominating committee to select candidates for club officers next year.  Elections will be at the January 2003 club meeting.

Wayne Valentine then gave a report on preparations for Wild West Vette Fest 2003.  Events are being chaired as follows:

Helpers – Randy and Joyce Wagner (Idaho Falls), Sam and Janet Miller (Rexburg), Jim and Judy Hobbs and Wayne and Pam Valentine (West Yellowstone)

·        Raffle – Tommy Taylor

·        Parade & Parking – Tommy Taylor

·        Scavenger Hunt – West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce

Wayne suggested that the chairs choose a co-chair to help and to train for future shows.

The Twin Falls Club would like to organize a “shoot-out” event for Wild West Vette Fest 2003.  This, as well as the Bozeman Club organizing the driving event, will depend on whether our insurance allows it.

Wayne said he has been negotiating with the Holiday Inn Convention Center regarding using an outside caterer for the food at Wild West Vette Fest 2003.  The Convention Center has agreed to let us use an outside caterer in 2003 provided we agree to use the Convention Center’s food service in the future if we choose them to be our host hotel.

Wayne has purchased two clocks that any Corvette owner would love for prizes in the Wild West Vette Fest 2003 raffle.  Anyone interested in ordering one for themselves can call Wayne (356-5204).  The clocks cost $38.95 each.

The next monthly meeting will be the Christmas Party, now planned for December 10, 2002.  Check elsewhere in this newsletter for the time and location.

Christmas Shopping

This year we will do our Christmas Shopping for Families on December 8th at 9:00 am at SHOPKO. We will meet at the Service Desk area. We have 11 families and seniors to shop for. After shopping, we will wrap the presents. Bev Novak has agreed to let us use her house again this year to do the wrapping. We will shop, wrap, and have lunch.

This is a very important job and the ladies that have participated in the past have really enjoyed it. We are usually finished by 1:00 p.m. Please bring your radios. Please let your calling tree contact know if you can make it, or call Trish 458-4671.

Christmas Party

Our Christmas Party will be at the Relay Station (St Anthony) at 7:00 p.m. on December 10.  The Relay Station is usually closed on Tuesdays, but will open just for us. Because of this we need to have at least 50 people.

Please bring a white elephant gift -- nothing over $5.00 per person. We will play Santa Bingo. Please let your calling tree contact know as soon as possible (or Trish 458-4671) if you can make it. We will also need to know your selection from the menu below. A final count is needed by Saturday the 7th.

The following menu prices include tip and tax. Each selection comes with soup, salad, baked potato, vegetable, roll, coffee, and punch. Your choices are:

CSEI Helps Shriners Help Kids

by Ron Bone

Corvettes of Southeast Idaho members are known to be big-hearted when it comes to helping those in need in our communities.  Especially at Christmas time.  Perhaps that’s why the Shriners recently approached President Randy Wagner with a request.  The Shriners, of course, are well known for their hospitals that help needy kids who face nasty illnesses.

The Rexburg Shriners were planning a raffle to raise money for deferring transportation expenses they incur when driving kids and their families to their Salt Lake City hospital.  They wondered if CSEI would be willing to donate the prize for the raffle.  The math would be instructive:  a $300 prize would enable raising $5,000 in the raffle, providing an attractive multiplication of our gift.

The only thing was, time was of the essence.  Since the raffle would be held during the upcoming chariot races, they couldn’t wait for the next club meeting for a vote by our full club.  So Randy canvassed your elected club officers, who unanimously approved the proposal.

So keep your eyes open for the raffle and for the poster announcing our donation of the raffle prize.  It’s another reason to feel great about the season.
