Hail From the Chief

By Brian Novak

Spring! Good weather and the Vettes have been out!  It’s a great time for some impromptu gatherings like the trip to Hill Air Force Base and the Rail Road Museum.  Thanks Egon and Trish for setting it up, next month will be a report on the event.  Many other fun get-togethers are in store -- be ready!  Of course, a coordinator would be beneficial to help set things up (Hint Hint).  Not much else to say except that I’m excided about summer and hitting the road with the top down!  Next meeting will be at the Brownstone Restaurant near the falls at 7:30 pm on May 23. The upstairs area is reserved for us.  Tip will be included on the tab.  ‘Till then, keep on vetting!

Minutes for March Meeting

Taken by Brian Novak for Bev

The meeting was held at the Hardhat Café in Rexburg.  We had a good turnout.  Thanks for all who came to the meeting.

Egon will be having a car information get-together on May 17 at Easter Idaho Technical College at 7:00 pm.  SCCA Half-fast Racing has invited us to several of their events; more information will follow about a hill climb and a microbrewery tour.

Our summer drive-in will be at Rays In and Out (formerly A&W). On Saturday, April 29, the club took a drive to Hill Air Force.

Members wanted to know if it would be possible to email the newsletter out.

Several members went to the driving school in Pahrump Nevada (Formerly Brag Smith Driving Class).  All said it was a great experience and was worth every penny.

The meeting was adjourned and we all enjoyed a good meal.

Editor’s Note: It is possible to email the newsletter. All but two of our current 28 members have given us email addresses. Emailing in place of printing and snail mailing would save the Club about an average of $40 a month.

Did You Know

By Egon

I have been thinking about the up-coming summer days and nights.

Taking the Vette for a ride on a hot summer day shouldn’t be a problem if you do a little prep work.

This time let’s discuss the radiator. Air flows through and cools the engine coolant. Maybe I better say SHOULD flow through. Recently I had Connie’s Vette raised up where I could look under the front end.  What I saw gave me a red face.

One-fourth of the radiator was covered with junk (hay, straw, weeds, etc.) picked up driving down the road. Now when you look at how fine the coil mesh is, you can understand how this could happen.

So I would suggest you blow with an air gun from the inside, or maybe use the garden hose from the inside out to flush this out so you can again get proper airflow.

You may have other heating problems, but this could solve that one.

Keep your cool and enjoy the summer.
