The Prez Box

by Ron Bone

It was altogether fitting that Blackfoot would pay tribute to its National Guard as they faced deployment to Iraq.  We savored the opportunity to participate, to salute them in our own way.  And as we watched them, standing at parade rest as the Stars and Stripes furled in the incessant wind, we stood a little straighter and our hearts beat more proudly.

Ten Corvettes joined the parade through town.  Four, no less, came from Pocatello alone.  The rest were from Blackfoot and Idaho Falls, so our club was well represented.  Thanks to everyone who took the time to come.  Tim Hobley led the way, treating everyone to the lope of that mile-high cam.  The parade was pretty quiet until some young kids yelling “Roast ‘em!” succeeded in agitating someone ahead into a

short burnout.  Probably that yellow Stingray with side pipes again!

Dennis and Connie Horvath joined our club on the day of the parade.  We wish them a great, big welcome!  Their first love is golf, but there’s room up there near the top for Corvettes, too, since they often take the Vette to their golf tournaments.  Say “Hello” and make their acquaintances when you get the chance.

Parades

and Reservations

by Janet Miller

The Rigby Stampede Parade is Saturday June 12th in Rigby. If you want to put your Vette in the parade you need to be on 1st North by the flag near the chapel at 8:30 a.m., June 12th. I talked to a Jennifer at 745-8073. You can call her if you have any questions.
The
Rexburg 4th of July parade is going to be on Saturday, July 3rd this year. Vicki

Grover is in charge of the parade this year and she can be reached at 356-7044. She said that we will line up near the D & L Dry Cleaners on South 2nd West across from Porter Park. There is going to be a parade of children in the front of the parade. She is going to start them out 15 minutes early at 9:45 and the rest of the parade starts at 10:00 but I think they might slow us down. I will try to find out more by our June meeting.

All those wanting to go to the Boise Car Show this year should make your room reservations soon. We are staying at the Red Lion Park Center, the phone number is 342-1044 and the booking number is 3307. The rooms are $65.00 plus tax per night. Most of us are leaving Thursday morning to caravan over together. They have changed their show schedule some this year. I will have one of their forms at the June meeting. The rooms that I have blocked off for our club will be sold to the public on July 8th so get your reservations now! You don't want to miss the drag races on Friday.

Just Like Old Times

by Ben Sanchez

It has been quite a while since Claudia and I have been involved with the club and it’s activities.  So, when we had an opportunity we just had to take advantage.  Fred and

Wanda Hughes, Ken and Linda Olsen, and Dennis and Bonnie Fikstad were headed to Laughlin, Nevada for the annual Corvette show and we were planning on going with them until a family wedding interfered.  However, on their way back through to Idaho Falls, they decided to take a couple extra days and spend some time with us.  I can guarantee if you want to attract attention, have a few corvettes park in front of your house.

Considering the limited time they were going to spend and not wanting to add a lot of miles to their trip, we decided on a day trip to Snow Canyon State Park located approximately 25 miles North of St. George.  Weather-wise the day couldn’t have been more perfect.  Snow Canyon offers a lot of beautiful scenery and some fairly easy

climbing too.

The Red Rock and sand makes a pretty spectacular setting to take a few pictures of not only the “gang”, but also some pretty nice cars too.

Yes, it has been quite a while since we did anything like this, but for that day it felt just like old times.

Could This Be You

by  Egon Lamprecht

Fooled you this time; no this is not “Did You Know.” I thought a little something different would be OK.

This time we will address Bad Drivers Hall of Shame. May I suggest a few drivers we have all seen out on the highway.

1.      Horny Mac. This driver likes to honk his horn at all drivers he sees making a mistake. Because he is perfect, he thinks when someone else honks, it is for someone else – not him.

2.      No-Blinker Sally or Bob. This one thinks, “Everyone knows I’m making a left turn” so why do I need to signal.

3.      In-a-Hurry Harry or Harriet. This one must always be at the front of the line no matter how fast I need to go to get there.

4.      Fast-Lane Frak or Fran. This one thinks as long as I’m going “about” the speed limit, the inside lane belongs to me. This same driver also thinks “The Inside Lane is Mine no matter what my speed. You wanna pass, then do so on the right.”

5.      High Beam Hatty or Hank. This on thinks “I gotta see, so I need high beams all the time.” Why are you blinking your lights at ME? Also let’s not forget the drivers that seem to need fog lights on 100% of the time!

6.      Cautious Cathy or Creg. Now this driver must slow to a walking speed to round the corner (10 MPH). Don’t want to roll the Corvette!

7.      Yacking Joseph or Jill. These must always stay in contact with home and business events by the minute.

We could all think of many more just like the above. Have a good summer with the other drivers.
