The Prez Box

by Ron Bone

First of all, please notice in the Calendar of Coming Events that our next monthly meeting will be on June 15, instead of June 16 as announced at the last meeting.  That will avoid a conflict with the Thursday drive-in at Scotty’s.  While you’re perusing the calendar, take note of the Glacier/Waterton and the Lewis & Clark Caverns trips that are detailed there.  If you’re going on the Glacier/Waterton trip, it is absolutely critical that you reserve your rooms NOW.

Now for a public service announcement.  With all of our newer members, it would be very useful to know a little about other members and their Corvettes, including what they look like.  This need was recently pointed out to me by a perceptive prior president, Ben Sanchez, who tries his best to keep up with the club from afar.  However, Ben not only offered the suggestion, but also volunteered to coordinate the work of making it happen.  Now, that’s the kind of guy we can all appreciate.  So when Ben sends you a

questionnaire, please take the time to fill it out and return it.  Now, if we could just find someone with a digital camera to snap photos of members with their Corvettes …

We recently delivered the checks from the Corvette license plates to our selected charities.  As usual, it was a very rewarding event since their need is so evident.  The director of the Family Crisis Center of Rexburg told me, for example, that they have recently lost a sizeable grant from the state of Idaho.  That grant was their bread-and-butter, so our donation came at a particularly helpful time.  You can also see the gratitude in a thank-you from the Haven Shelter, included elsewhere in this newsletter.  Our collective hats are off to Valley Corvettes for making this possible by sharing the proceeds with us.  And thanks to those of you who took the time to help deliver the checks.  It adds a personal note that says “We care!”.

 Minutes of the May Meeting

by Peggy Bone

The monthly meeting was held May 12 at Betty’s Café in Blackfoot.  There were twenty members present.  President Ron Bone called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M.  Ron acknowledged the May birthdays.

Ron introduced guest speaker Richard Staten, who gave a brief talk on the progress of the Snake River Speedway located west of Blackfoot.  If anyone has questions or is interested in investing in the project, please contact him at 208-681-4707.

Trish Bargman reminded the members not to forget our third Thursday of the month get-together at the Sonic Drive-In in Rexburg.  She and Debbie Morris are working on upcoming drives.

Wayne Campbell announced that the D.A.R.E. drives have been changed.  The first drive will be on May 27, 7:00 A.M., at the Bowl-ero for breakfast, then drive the students to Westside Elementary.  The second drive will be on June 3, 7:15 A.M., at the Bowl-ero for breakfast, then drive the students to Dora Erickson Elementary.

Jack Larsen said he is working on the schedule for the trip to Glacier National Park July 25-28.  Persons going on the trip will need a certified birth certificate or a passport to get back into the United States.

Ron stated that the Big Sky Meet-Cruise to the Sky in Bozeman, Montana will be May 27-29.  He said a caravan will be leaving Friday, May 27 at 10:30 A.M. from Idaho Falls with a stop in West Yellowstone for lunch.  Those who will be joining the caravan were asked to let him know.  Also, the Border Run in Jackpot is June 10-12.  Both of these clubs always support our show, so please plan to go if you can.  You’ll have a great time.

Ron also said that we have received the license plate fund charity checks from Valley Corvettes.  It was decided that we will deliver the checks on May 20.

Bill Madsen reported that the plans for Wild West Vette Fest are coming along well.  However, we still need members to get more sponsors and door prizes.  All ideas are welcome.  On a sad note, Bill said that some siding fell on Fred Hughes and broke his hip.  Also, Tim Hobley’s car was severely damaged in an accident.  Tim was not hurt.

Our Treasurer, Connie Lamprecht, said that the club has approximately $3,000 in the bank.

Ron reminded everyone that yearly membership dues are overdue.  Anyone who has not paid will no longer receive newsletters.

The next meeting was set for June 16 at the Relay Station in St. Anthony.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.

Up-Coming Events

by Trish Bargman

We will have our 1st Thursday of the month at Scotty’s on June 2nd. The 3rd Thursday will be at the Artic Circle in Shelley on the 16th of June.

Our second D.A.R.E. Drive the Kids to School and Breakfast will be Friday morning 7:00 at the Bowlero. There are a lot of kids and we need all the cars we can get. There were some kids last Friday that had to double up, so please try to be there.

Lewis & Clark Caverns: We will be going to the Lewis and Clark Caverns on June 24, 25, and 26. We have eight rooms blocked in Dillon and Butte; there were more rooms available when I talked to them so if more want to come I’m sure there will be rooms if you hurry. We will meet at the old Fred Meyers parking lot in Idaho Falls at 5:15 pm and leave at 5:30 pm. The upper valley people will be picked up at Sage Junction at 6:00 pm if they are not at Fred Meyers. We will then travel to Dillon for the first night. There is a great place just south of Dillon [not the Dell School house] to have dinner or you may have dinner on your own. We will stay the night at Dillon at the Comfort Inn, 800-442-4667 or 406-683-6831. The rate is $75.00 unless you have an AAA or AARP membership, then the rate is $64.00. The reservations are under the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho and Trish Bargman. The confirmation numbers are 173589 through 173596, so you will receive one of those numbers when you make your reservation.

We will go to the Caverns the next morning and then go into Butte and spend the afternoon  and evening looking around historic Butte. There are lots of museums and there are probably more old historic homes than we will be able to look at. Anyone have a great idea for a place to have dinner? We will be staying at the Butte Super 8 406-494-6000 the rate is 68.11 tax included for rooms with two people. Talk to Jody or mention Corvettes of Southeast Idaho.  Sunday morning we will find a fun way to come home.

Be sure to bring your radios and let Trish 458-4671 or Debbie 524-3087 know if you are planning to come. We don’t want to leave anyone behind.

We have some time issues in getting  rooms for our Canada trip -- The Waterton Lake Canada trip July 25th, 26th, and 27th.

Charities Thank Club

The following Thank You Cards were received after receiving our donations from the Corvette license plate funds.

“Thank you, thank you for your donation to the Haven Shelter.  It was greatly appreciated.  We will put the money to good use.  We are already in the planning stages of summer activities for the kids here.  We have had four babies born here in the last two months and one more due in two weeks.  That has taxed our newborn resources greatly.  We also have had a lot of kids arrive at the Haven requiring socks, shoes and underwear.  This has also depleted our reserves.  We are also going to replace a broken washing machine.  Thank you again.”

Sincerely,

Anne Johnson

Haven Manager

“Thank you for your recent donation of $700 to the City of Refuge and for personally delivering it!  We are thankful that you are partners in reaching out to the poor, the hurting and the homeless in Eastern Idaho.”
