Hail from the Chief

By Trish Bargman

Well it’s June and we really haven’t done anything have we? I’m really sorry! We do have Scotty’s on the 7th and the 21st, a meeting and a drive on the 16th, and of course the Black Hills trip that 12 cars are going on. So that is a good start. I know you want to know where our next meeting is; well I have had three weeks to work on it and haven’t figured it out yet. I will do that soon, and let everyone know by phone and email. Where we go on our ride will influence where we meet and eat.

I know that I got the newest members birthdays at the Sweetheart Breakfast, but can’t find them. So if you could email or call me with the month and day then we can acknowledge them in the newsletter.

Wayne Campbell did a great job with the DARE “drive the kids to school” event. Great turnout from the club and even members that couldn’t make it made arrangements for their cars to be available.

Dale Larsen and Bruce Barton generously let other people take their cars, so special thanks to them. When you see the faces of the kids that earned the ride and all the cheering students when they arrive at school it really make it all worthwhile.

After that we delivered $3,000 to the Haven in Idaho Falls, Blackfoot Family Crisis Center, and Rexburg Family Center. That makes a total of $9,000 from the license plate money and another $5,000 from our Wild West Vette Fest fund at Christmas. That’s $16,000 in one year in charitable contributions. Not bad!

Of course that leads to this year’s Wild West Vette Fest. Be sure to make your hotel reservations and get your registrations in. Tim and Bill still need help so give them a call.

Let’s have a date night on the 29th. We will meet and have dinner and go to a movie or go on a drive if there isn’t anything we want to see. Place to be announced later.

Have fun at Scotty’s this Thursday if you are not able to go on the Black Hills trip, and I’ll see you all the 16th.

Save the Wave!

Minutes from May Meeting

Twenty-eight members attended.

May birthdays were Trish Bargman, Connie Lamprecht, Marv Bennett, and Linda Moore.

The DARE drive was a great success, thanks to the 17 cars and drivers that attended.

The Blackfoot newspaper did an article on the drive. Nine thousand dollars was divided between the three following charities: Crisis Center of Blackfoot, Crisis Center of Rexburg, and the Haven in Idaho Falls.

We will meet at the Scotty’s Drive Inn on the first and third Thursdays of the month; hope to see you there.

The date and place of the next meeting is yet to be announced.

Our show in West Yellowstone is on schedule, August 24, 25, and 26.  The Holiday Inn is the host hotel; check-in time is 1:00 PM until 11:00 PM.

Friday night activities – icebreaker at 5 PM

Saturday activities – parade, poker run, single car drag race in town (distance unknown at this time), dinner

Sunday activities – Show and Shine in the City Park.

Please contact one of the show representatives if you can lend a helping hand.

Thanks, Doug

Did You Know

By Egon

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the birdies is? The one dropping stuff on your car!

Now is the best time to get out and add some protection to the paint to protect it from the “bombers”.

I have talked to several body men about this. They seem to all agree that a silicone base treatment, while it looks the best, is a nightmare to get off in case bodywork is needed. I personally don’t use any product that contains it.  The next best thing they agree on is to wash often and use good sense in washing so as to not scratch the surface. Using a liquid soap designed for car is the next best thing. Dishwashing detergent will remove all the “stuff” you applied to protect the paint.

Anything you apply to the dash will end up on the windshield -- a mess to remove.

Use a good product to protect the leather seats.

And last but not least, join other Vetters this summer, and drive baby drive -- that’s why you have that car.
