Hail from the Chief

By Kelly Armstrong

Well, we have had some nice weather so far. We had our June meeting at Puerto Vallarta and the food was great. We discussed what some of our next activities were going to be. There were four cars in the Frontier Days Parade in Rigby on the 10th of June. On the 17th of June there were six or more cars at the Albertson's show. Albertson's is one of our sponsors from Rexburg. Don't forget the 4th of July Parade in Rexburg. We should be there by 9 a.m. at the High School. We are going to have our next club meeting at B.J.'s Byoue in Roberts on July 18th at 7 p.m. Call me and I will tell you how to get there. Or maybe some of us can meet at the Dairy Queen on Broadway and go from there.

It seems like the show is going OK. Thanks to Sam and Janet Miller, we have two $250 sponsors for our show. Sam and Janet, our hats are off to you for all of the things that you do to get sponsors.

I got an email from Bev and the Grey Wolf is NOT full. But you have to tell them that you are there for the show; and talk to Tish, she will know how to handle your reservation.

Terry and I want to thank you for all of the cards and for the flowers that you our friends sent to us when Terry's brother passed away. It was very much appreciated.

Well, that is all for now. We will see you at the meeting!

Way to go Amy!

Congratulations to Amy Forman for graduating in May from Idaho State University -- and with high honors with a degree in Biology.

June Meeting Minutes

By Bev Novak

The meeting was held at Puerto Vallarta restaurant. There were about 25 members present and one new granddaughter (Marleen and Tom's).

Farrell and Darlene passed around a wonderful picture book of the trip we took to McCall and Missoula. It was a great trip. Farrell is thinking up another one.

Kelly started the meeting telling people about the events that were happening. Rigby was having a parade. Those interested were to contact Terry. The Albertson's show was set for June 17th from 12 until 3 p.m. We cleaned the highway on June 11 at 4 p.m. The club bought the ice cream afterwards. Lynn and Betty are again putting on the Iona Days in July. They passed around a flyer. The Taylor Chevrolet show is set for July 15 . Please try to attend this one.

Debbie asked about the $250 put aside for the Scholarship. Someone needs to take care of that.

The meeting was adjourned.

Iona Days Car Show

Don't forget the car show July 22 at the Iona Square. There is no fee, no hats, not T-shirts, but a great time showing your car, sitting in the shade, and enjoying the day. Mayor Rockwood will foot the bill for dash plaques.

Cool Antenna!

By Stephen & Leanne Meli

My wife and I are members of the Northwest Corvette Association in Vancouver, WA, and also of the C5 Registry. When we bought our C5, we decided that we didn't want to put a CB antenna on the outside of the car. Doing that would simply take away from the beautiful lines of the Corvette.

The result was that we did a great deal of research and developed a complete antenna/ground plane that I installed inside our C5 without losing any of the original storage or trunk space. Fellow club members saw what we had developed and got excited about the antenna, so now we manufacture them here in Vancouver. We are not soliciting your business, only letting you know about this new way of installing a CB antenna in any C5 model or C4 coupe.

Believe me when I say this antenna setup really works and is so sanitary. All you see of the Kit after installation is the antenna and its bracket. It is totally out of the way after being installed! We also have discovered other valuable tips we'd like to share with fellow Corvette owners with regard to installing CB's.

Please pass this information on to your fellow Corvette owners and club members. We will be happy to answer any and all questions by e-mail, telephone, or fax. If you'd like to take a look at our web page, it is:

We hope you'll pass on this information to all the Corvette people you know. We're also thinking of trying to organize some kind of National Corvette Meet for the year 2001! Anyone who might be interested in this idea should please send your thoughts. Thanks.

Be Careful!

By Egon Lamprecht

A problem with Brian Novak's Corvette brings to mind an important item. Brian had silicone brake fluid in his Vette when Bev took it to a quick lub for servicing. They topped it off with standard brake fluid. That was three years ago and Brian is still fighting the problem, or should I say Dick Barman is. The system has been flushed a number of times but some residue is still present to cause Brian trouble.

My suggestion is, if you decide to use silicon brake fluid, make sure you put some kind of note on the master cylinder to inform the super lub monkey NOT to use standard fluid. Did you label your master cylinder Marvin? This get very costly to correct. Ask Brian.

Have a good summer, and I hope your Vette's wower works good!

GM News

GM will lift the embargo on information and photos on the HOT new 2001 Z06 Corvette July 1, 2000. At midnight EST (10 p.m. our time) I'll be posting photos, specs, and more to the Idaho Corvette Page www.idavette.net and the C5 Registry website www.c5reizistry.com

I've been working with famed Corvette writer Hib Halverson who attended the long lead press tour and drove a Z06 around a race track in Ohio for a couple of days. He's been working for the last month developing an article for the two above-mentioned websites about the car, including his driving impressions.

C5-R driver Andy Pilgrim also pushed the car to the limit at the Ohio track and I hope to have some comments from him, if he gets back from Le Mans in time. I can tell you they called it fantastic.

Nassau blue has been discontinued but there are two new colors for 2001: Quicksilver and Speedway White. I have a feeling both the present and past presidents of Corvettes of Southeast Idaho are going to want one of these Corvettes!

GM also furnished me with a bunch of material and photos. The info will be on these two websites before it is seen anywhere else in the world! No other website has all this stuff! The print media will be about 30 days behind these two sites.

Great Friends
