Corvettes of Southeast Idaho
www.srv.net/~csei/csei.htm
A few last thoughts as Prez, a year ago when I assumed this office there
were some things that I wanted to see happen, I wanted to increase membership
and try to get some of the members more involved with the club. Now at the
end of my term I have a much clearer understanding of why membership and
involvement exist at the current level. The population of an area the size
of south eastern Idaho is relatively small, and not everyone that owns a
Corvette has the urge to belong to a club. Also there are real reasons why
members are involved to the extent that they are, and it is unreasonable
to expect people to reorganize their lives exclusively for the clubs benefit.
But in the end it is an incontestable fact that the club is what we the
membership make it, so I appeal to you to give as freely of your self as
you can. If everybody carries a little of the load no one person has to carry
the whole load.
I have been soliciting ideas to recognize the time and effort that is given
by the President of the Club, Mary Bennett recently suggested that the club
purchase a leather jacket and have it embroidered on the front with the logo,
persons name and President with the applicable year. I think that this is
an excellent idea and will include it on the ballot for next years officers.
Chris Elmore has blocked the rooms that we will be staying in during stop

New Corvette Museum Website
If you have access to the Internet and you haven't been to the National Corvette
Museum's new Website your really missing something! After over a year of
visits, e-mail exchanges, and phone calls between Wendell Strode, NCM Director,
Jack Morocco (Corvette Surfing - Webmaster) Glenn Darwin (NCM Net and C5
Fighter Squadron - List and Webmaster) and myself the site finally went on
line in November. Jack (from Massachusetts) and Glenn (from Kentucky) did
the work on the site... And a great job it is! Betty, Wendell, and Marty
from the NCM would e-mail and snail-mail photos and text to Glenn and Jack.
Working form their homes over the Internet, they built the site on a web
server in Kentucky (Isn't the Internet Wonderful!).
A visit to the site is almost like being at the museum itself. There's plenty
of text, information, and photos. The entire Corvette Store catalog is on-line
(along with a few Internet only specials) and on a secure server so you needn't
worry about credit card purchases. From the comfort of your home or office
(or for those of you without a computer - the public library) you can now
visit the museum, join the ranks of the membership, purchase a brick or two,
and view and purchase the Corvette store merchandise. There's even an on-line
e-mail directory so you can correspond directly with the NCM Staff.. including
the director Wendell Strode.
Take the time to Visit your Corvette Museum on-line at: www.corvettemuseum.com
Happy
Holidays to All !

HELENA, Dec. 23 Montana's daytime speeding law was thrown out Wednesday by the state Supreme Court. The high court says the law, which requires speeds to be reasonable and prudent, is so vague that it's unconstitutional.
The decision was close, coming on a four-to-three vote. It's expected to
put added pressure on the 1999 legislature to restore a posted daytime speed
limit.
In Wednesday's ruling, the court says law officers can still cite drivers
for reckless or careless driving during daylight hours, but motorists cannot
be charged with speeding, unless they are told at what speed their conduct
violates the law.
The 1999 legislature convenes on January 4th, and the speed limit will likely
be a hot topic.
Among the dissenters in the Supreme Court ruling was Chief Justice Jean Turnage.
He says Montana drivers have a long history of understanding the "basic rule"
that has remained unchanged over four decades.

Did You Know

December 6th, 10+ club ladies and ONE male member of the club went shopping
for Christmas gifts for out adopted families. With all those fine ladies
did I feel like a minority.
It was sure an experience shopping with ladies and not using MY check book.
The ladies did a great job picking out the items for the adopted families.
Think of this picture, 10 + ladies zoooming all over Shop Co with carts running
at Vette speed.
Next year I hope some of the fellows join in just for the fun of it. You
could suggest what the male people on the lists need, no Richard not golf
clubs. You should see when all the carts line up at the check out counter,
WOW.
This is the giving part that Christmas is all about. Visualize the joy we
the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho have brought to our adopted families. Thanks
everyone for the help in making the funds available so we could do this.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Tentative date for the Jackpot show is May 14-16....
More details as soon as things shape up from this end.
Merry Christmas !!!

Starting in 1999 should the club purchase a leather jacket for the President
in recognition of time and effort given to the club? ( If this measure passes
the club bylaws will need to be amended to reflect it.)
