Corvettes
of Southeast Idaho

Well, you've done it again, and I want to thank you. As your newly elected
president for 1999, I will try to make this a fun corvette year. My primary
goal is to get every member to get involved with club events, from Scotties
to helping out at the Wild West Vette Fest '99. We've got a lot of really
good and friendly people in this club and it would be great if everyone was
able to get out and enjoy their compay.
The annual Sweetheart Brunch will be held at 10:00 am., on February 14 at
O'Callahans in the Shilo Inn. They have a very good Sunday Brunch and we
will get an area to ourselves (non-smoking). This is also the time to turn
in any entries for the Wild West Vette Fest '99 Logo Contest. The winning
logo will be used as the shows official logo. In the past, we have had some
great logos, and I hope to keep up the tradition.
Other items to look forward to this year is the 5th anniversary of the National
Corvette Museum. Several club members are getting ready for the festivities.
Cars will caravan from all over the country to meet at Bowling Green Kentucky.
We will probably meet the caravan in Pocatello or Twin Falls, and drive to
Salt Lake City. The next day gets us to Denver, then to Kansas City for the
third night. The next days drive is to Louisville before the final hop into
Bowling Green. Three days of festivities follows in Bowling Green before
the trip back home. It should be a great time, but if you want to go, you'd
better hurry and get registered and get rooms before they are all gone!
Finally, I want to thank last years officers, they all did a great job. It
takes a big investment of personal time to be an officer and I want them
to know that I felt it was a very successful year. Richard Morris, our as
president, Frank Smith as vice-president, Debbie Morris as treasurer, Wendy
Farmer as secretary all did a fantastic job. So the next time you see them
on the street, thank them for the hard work they did to help make this club
a litter better. Also, thanks to everyone who ran for office this year. It
shows how much you care that you were willing to invest the time it would
require to be an officer. This year, your new officers are: Brian Novak -
President, Bill Merril - Vice President, Debbie Morris - Treasurer, Sam and
Janet Miller - Secretary, and Egon Lamprecht - Events Coordinator.

AND AWAY WE GO!!
By Egon Lamprecht
Man, you talk about a one sided election for the job of events coordinator,
well we will try with your help to make this years events interesting for
all. Now when I accepted the nomination, I asked for your support in finding
interesting things for all of us to do. I will hold you to your word to help
me out.
So be thinking of drives and events in the next year that we all can have fun doing.
A couple of events that will be upcoming are:
1. Trip to Hill Air Force Base to look at all the WW II war planes and the
Train Depot that has a car collection along with gun collection from Browning.
2. W-W-W- Boy is this going to be a bash. WWW stands for Women's Wild Weekend.
Just for the ladies, guys stay home and watch the dog, clean house, including wash the windows,
Mow the lawn & etc.
3. For the Guys a trip to the hanger at fanning field the restores WW II
aircraft. Think a million bucks + to restore one aircraft. That will give
you some idea on ways to restore your Vette.
4. Maybe some progressive supper next summer.
Ok folks put on your thinking caps and help me out.
Thank you and with your help, away we go!
The February meeting will be at O'Callahans at the Shilo Inn in Idaho Falls. The time is 10:00 am. and will be the annual Sweetheart Brunch. Afterwards, there will be a officers meeting to include incoming and outgoing officers as a turnover/lessons learned thing.
"Corvette Event of the Century"
Sept. 1999 at the National Corvette Museum
Bowling Green, KY-Corvette enthusiasts from around the world will journey
to the National Corvette Museum in 1999 to celebrate the Museum's fifth
anniversary. Labor Day weekend, September 3-6, will mark the Museum's biggest
event ever with their fifth annual Corvette Celebration. However, as the
old saying goes, "getting there is half the fun." With a repeat of the
international Corvette Caravan that drew worldwide attention in 1994, Vette
owners' pilgrimage to Bowling Green will truly be an event in itself.
Origination points have been named all over the country for the 1999 National
Corvette Caravan. Corvette enthusiasts will begin their journeys from all
points, joining up with one of fourteen different caravans that will begin
their treks as early as late August. Local Chambers of Commerce, Chevrolet
dealerships and other organizations in cities along the way will host receptions
and other events. Caravan participants, some having traveled for days, will
arrive in Nashville and Louisville on September 2, 1999, to celebrate the
eve of what is expected to be the biggest gathering of Corvettes in history.
The next day, on Friday, September 3, Corvette enthusiasts will get an early
start as they begin the final short leg of their expedition. The two Caravans
will depart Nashville and Louisville to converge at the National Corvette
Museum in what will be an amazing display of horsepower. The Caravan is expected
to pick up over 10,000 Corvettes as it journeys through more than 30 states.
The Corvettes' arrival in Bowling Green-home of the Corvette-will signal
the beginning of the 1999 Corvette Celebration. This four-day event will
feature tours of the National Corvette Museum and the world's only Corvette
Assembly Plant. There will be competitive events such as autocross, drag
racing and road rally. Celebrity guests will conduct seminars, sign autographs
and meet one-on-one with Corvette enthusiasts. Chevrolet and General Motors
representatives, including top engineers and designers, will be on-hand to
introduce and discuss new models and options.
Highlights of the 1999 Corvette Celebration will include the second annual
Corvette Hall of Fame induction banquet. Last year's induction was a sell-out
as this highest honor was bestowed upon the inaugural class of inductees.
Chevrolet is expected to introduce the 2000 model year Corvette at the Museum's
celebration, as they have done with the new models for the past three years.
National Corvette Museum representatives also promise a host of special displays,
popular guests and other surprises.
Wendell Strode, Museum Executive Director, said, "When the Corvette Museum
opened in 1994, we watched as thousands of Corvettes arrived after traveling
many miles. It was an incredible sight! Those participants felt the trip
was the highlight of their lives, and we expect 1999 to be that kind of
experience for these folks. Bowling Green is the 'Corvette Mecca,' and these
'pilgrims' are coming home."
The National Corvette Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating
the public through the preservation of the Corvette's past, present and future
heritage. The Museum is located on Interstate 65 at Exit 28 and is open daily
year round. To register for the 1999 Corvette Caravan and Celebration, or
for further details, contact the National Corvette Museum at (800) 53-VETTE,

Did You Know
by Egon Lamprecht
As our stored corvettes are sleeping the winter away, we often forget that
a couple of checks need to be made right about now. Now is the time a small
charger be applied to the battery to bring it back up to full charge. In
storage, batteries "self" discharge even if the ground cable has been removed.
Just overnight should do it.
Next just look inside to be sure that little mice have not made your vette
a winter house.
Check also to see that the doors are just latched to the first notch, this
lets the rubber gasket relax and seal better next summer.
I learned something the other day from Mitch at Car America, during sub zero
weather, tires can loose up to 5 lbs. of air pressure a week. This is because
of leaks around the rim-to-tire seal. While this may not apply to your stored
vette, check your daily driver now and you may see 25 psi in your tires.
Working on an engine the other day I found out what running anti-freeze for
20 years did. Major erosion in the aluminum parts. I'm not sure I can even
salvage some of the parts. Again I say keep good anti freeze in those vettes.
3 years should be max with out replacement or re-conditioning .
Last item. ALWAYS use an Anti-seize compound on the threads of spark plugs.
Cast iron or aluminum heads makes no difference. The plugs seem to like to
weld them selves in over time and this sure helps in removal next time. Replacing
the exhaust manifold, same thing for the bolts that hold it on.
Just think another 3 months for some of us, and we will be vetting again

March Articles Due
Please have your articles for the March news letter to the editors by February
22.
This will be the 5th year at West Yellowstone and should be a good one. First
thing on the agenda, get a logo. If you are interested, you may submit a
logo for judging at the Sweetheart Brunch on February 14, 1999. The Brunch
will start at 10:00 am at O'Callahans at the Shilo Inn.
One tradition for the logo was to include the Vice-Co-charimans car in the
design. This year Brian and Bev Novak will be the Vice-Co-chairmen and they
have a '66 Blue Convertable and an '85 black coupe. Have fun with the design!
The next meeting will be February 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the Novaks.
Please try to attend.
