From the Prez

Here are the details of our Christmas party. This year it will be at the Stockman’s Restaurant (old Loft). It will be December 8th at 2:00 in the afternoon. Yes I did say afternoon. That way if you have company or family parties you will be able to come to our party also. You need to bring a gift of $10 or less for each person that would like to participate in the exchange and canned food for the food bank. You also need to bring cash or checkbook. We will be paying on one check so Connie will have the club checkbook and write one check and we will pay her before we leave.
Here are our choices and the prices:
Prime Rib: 10 oz $17.99
12 oz $19.99
16 oz $20.99
Atlantic Salmon: 12 oz $14.99
Chicken Queen Elizabeth: $14.99
The Stockman’s needs to know how many and what you want to eat by Tuesday the 4th. I know I’m cutting this a little close. Let your calling tree person know or me by then.
We have invited our newsletter editor Jim and his lovely wife Joan to join us and I really hope they can. I appreciate all the work and time that goes into getting the newsletter out each month. Feel free to invite new and old friends to come. The more the merrier.
Our shopping for our families will be on December 9th
at Shopko. We will meet at 10:00 a.m. and then go to a new place
to wrap. New members Mark and Sherree Schell have said we can use their place
at
One reason that I have been reluctant to do my article is I really don’t want to talk about this bit of news. We are going to have to make some changes in the way we do things. We are not going to have very much money anymore. We are out of the Wild West Vette Fest business. No one was able to come forward and take up the position of chairs, so without that we cannot have a show. Without a show we cannot do our Families at Christmas anymore, so is this the last year for that? No more helping soldiers get home for the holidays. No more helping the Shop with-a-Cop programs in the area. No more helping families in and out of our club with medical bills. No more donations to the food bank.
If you have an email address and it is not listed in the newsletter or you are not receiving the emails that I send out, please update that with me right away. To help with costs we will only send regular mail newsletters to those that request it and don’t have an email address. So starting in January the newsletter will be sent by email unless you tell us differently.
We will need to talk about insurance. Do we need it since we don’t have a show? If we need it how much and what kind do we need? We have a trailer that is full of ‘stuff’. What do we do with that? If we keep it, who will store it? I know we just bought a new scanner/printer/copier -- sitting idle will not be good for it. It was bought to produce all the paper work that goes with putting on a show -- a show we will not be having.
That’s all for right now. I hope I see you all at the Christmas party. Bring a gift, and some canned food for the food bank.

Did You Know
By Egon
The other day I was thinking of vehicles of the past, the 50’s in particular and the accessories that they had. A few that came to mind are as follows. Cadies and Olds had a few that were interesting.
Today we call them cruise controls; then they were called speed minders. You set a pointer on the speedometer at the max speed you wanted to travel and if you went beyond that, a beep-beep was herd telling you to slow down.
Another was an automatic headlight dimmer. As a car approached and you had your lights on bright, it would dim them for you. Now everybody runs with the clear fog lights on all the time.
Olds in the late 50’s advertised that you no longer had to lub their car. Oh boy, what would Jiffy Lub say to that?
Studebaker in the late 40’s had what they called a “hill holder”. That meant that if you had to start the car on a hill, you pushed the brake in along with the clutch and the brake stayed on until you let the clutch out.
It has only been in the last few years that you could set the temperature you want (cool or hot) inside the car and that was what you got. Back many years ago you just had a manual heat control. Oh yes, you can select different temperatures for each side of the car now – one for the driver and one for passenger.
How far have the manufactures come?
Connie’s new car turns the windshield wipers on automatically when it starts to
rain and turns them off when there’s no rain. The steering wheel is heated to
keep her hands warm in the winter, and the seat heats and “cools” as you
desire. What a car-world we live in. I have no idea as to the future.
