The Prez Box

by Ron Bone

As we approach the Christmas season, we come to the agreeable task of helping needy families and seniors in our communities.  This is a grand tradition in our club, the fortuitous product of our annual show, our sponsors, and a lot of hard work by our members.  Club members at the November monthly meeting took a look at our financial position and voted to spend $3,000 on those we choose to assist this year.

This is not as easy a task as one might think at first.  Just ask anyone who has done it in the past!  Fortunately, Jim and Judy Hobbs have accepted the job of organizing things this year.  It’s quite a gift in itself that two people as busy as these are willing to take the time to do this.  Thanks to both of them.

In another matter, remember that we will be voting in our 2005 officers at the January

meeting.  We will be forming a nominating committee soon to identify those who are willing to run for office.  If you would like to run, please let Tommy Taylor know so that we can get you on the ballot.  I think you will find that the rewards outweigh the work.

 Christmas Party Plans Change

by Ron Bone

We’ve had a change of both the date and the location for our Christmas Party this year.  The party will be at The Relay Station, just north of St. Anthony, on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, starting at 7:00 P.M.  One thing hasn’t changed: we’re going to have a fun time.

Plan to bring one wrapped gift per person, not to exceed $10 in value, to give to other members.  You can substitute white elephants if you wish.  In addition, please bring a bag of canned food to be donated to the needy.

The menu is listed below.  The restaurant has asked for an estimate of the number of people attending, and what they would like to eat.  Please take a minute to make your selections, then let us know before December 13.  You can call us at 522-5838, or e-mail us at rbone@srv.net.

Did You Know

By Egon

Here is some information for all you folks that like cold Idaho weather.

If you own a 2002 or newer Ford, Chrysler, and some imports that use a “zapper” to open and lock the doors this could happen.

You come out some cold morning and use the “zapper” to unlock the door. Then you start the car to warm it up, get out and go back into your warm house to wait until the car is toasty warm, or you get out scraping the frost of the windows.  Ready to go, you open the driver’s door. WRONG, it has re-locked. Now this may not be too bad if you have an extra key handy, but if you are 50 miles from home, like at the Jackson ski hill, oh my! If you have one of those cars with the punch buttons on the door you are ok.

Again I come back to the plan to hide a key some place outside the car for just this kind of use.

It happened to me; don’t let it happen to you. Zap Zap Zap

Soldier Thanks CSEI for Home Leave

Among the club mail received just before Thanksgiving was the following card.  It was from the family of SPC Shaun Paul Clark, who is from Blackfoot.  Shaun is with the 148th Field Artillery, Howitzer Battery 1.  The card was from Shaun’s mother and read:

“I want to thank your group very much for the help you gave my son in paying for his plane ticket home for leave before going to Iraq.  We are very grateful.”  (signed) Roene Clark.

Shaun added, “Thanks so much” and signed the card too.

New Exposed Xenon HID Headlamps

A high performance vehicle requires high performance lighting. The new Corvette delivers. In fact, one of the more distinctive features of the Corvette is its exposed headlamps for better lighting power as well as better aerodynamics. The low beams are a xenon, high-density discharge lamp coupled with tungsten-halogen high beams. At 900 lumens of output, the units provide significantly more forward lighting power than the headlamps on the fifth-generation Corvette. The low beams also have a spread pattern that is wider.

New Keyless Access with Pushbutton Start

The new Corvette does not require the use of a traditional ignition key. The presence of a key fob in the drives pocket or purse will enable access to the car. When the driver approaches the car, he or she reaches for a touch panel in a small recess pocket behind the door. By touching the touch panel, the keyless access system is activated. Once in the car, you no longer have to fumble for a key. Just depress the clutch on a manual transmission and then push the starter button on the right of the steering wheel.  Automatic transmission versions require the brake to be depressed before the engine will start.
