The Prez Box

by Ron Bone

The golden days of summer are upon us, which means that Wild West Vette Fest is just around the corner.  There will be many things to enjoy: a parade, a poker run, an autocross, a show-and-shine, lots of beautiful cars to ogle, lots of friendships to make or renew, and more.  This show is the premier event of the year for the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho, our Grand Finale.

So why is participation by our club members so poor?  A recent check revealed that the only club members registered are those who are serving on our show committee.  This speaks volumes to an issue we discussed at length earlier this year – whether or not to continue having a show every year.  At that time, there were strong and valid sentiments expressed in favor of keeping things the same.  We may need to revisit that issue at a

future meeting based on what we are seeing.  But, for this year, we are committed.

So this is the plea.  Register and come to the show.  You’re going to have a great time for not a lot of money.  And we need you to serve as visual statements of our commitment, as roving ambassadors, and as helpers with a myriad of ancillary jobs.

An abbreviated version of the registration form is included in this newsletter.  I really hope to see you at the show!

June Meeting Minutes

by Peggy Bone

The monthly meeting was held June 16, 2004 at Big Juds Country Diner in Archer.  President Ron Bone called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.M.  There were 24 members in attendance.  Ron acknowledged everyone having a birthday in June.

Ron discussed our allotment of funds from the Corvette specialty license plate program.  As of June 1, 2004 our allotment of the program funds was $4,527.  We requested $2,500 of that amount for the charities previously selected by a vote of the club members; $500 will be given to each charity.  We will leave the balance in the fund for future allotments to charities.  There was a discussion as to when the checks would be delivered.  We plan to coordinate all presentations of checks to the charities to occur in one day, and will have a caravan of club members.  The calling tree will notify members of the date of the presentations.

Bill Madsen asked for volunteers to approach potential sponsors in the Idaho Falls area for Wild West Vette Fest.  The following businesses that have recently become sponsors for our 2004 show were acknowledged:

Snake River IBA (Ken & Linda Olsen) $250

Robinson’s Paint & Glass – Idaho Falls $250

The Relay Station                                             $250

Big Juds Country Diner                         $100

Bill Waters now has the name tags for new club members.  Members who do not yet have their nametags should contact Bill.  Bill also discussed hatpins for our annual show.  He suggested that the new pins not be dated, but just use the State of Idaho and our club logo.  This would allow us to keep costs down by being able to sell the pins at future shows.  Steve Whitfield said that we might possible be able to sell them on

e-Bay.  Trish Bargman said that we are one of the few clubs still selling hatpins.

Janet Miller brought up the subject of upcoming parades.  Rexburg is having a parade on July 3 and Idaho Falls is having their parade on July 5.  Since we would be pulling the club trailer in the parades, we also need to update the decals on the trailer to reflect this year’s sponsors.  After the meeting, Janet discovered that a large group of children would be preceding the club’s position during the parade.  Concerned about overheating the cars during the slow going, Janet told the parade director that our club could not participate.  Also after the meeting, Bill Madsen found out that only floats will be allowed in the Idaho Falls parade, which eliminated our club’s participation.

Tommy Taylor talked about participating in Chubbuck Days August 9-14.  The parade will be on Saturday, August 14.  There are some Corvette owners in Pocatello who are interested in joining our club.  Also, June 25 is Drive Your Corvette to Work Day.

Randy Wagner presented the club with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Idaho Falls Police Department for our support and service to the D.A.R.E. Program.  Randy thanked everyone who helped.

Trish Bargman read a Thank You note from one of the families the club helped at Christmas.

Ron announced that our Christmas Party is planned for December 17, 2004 at The Teton Grille.

Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2004, 7:00 P.M., at the Relay Station in St. Anthony.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
