Hail from

The Chief

By Lynn McKinlay

We have a new email address now. It is mcklb@if.rmci.net

As I sat eating dinner this evening at Me N' Stan's in Rexburg this evening I listened to the conversations. It is great to be with a group of car lovers that enjoy the company of those around them. It was also heart warming to hear again the purpose of our organization. Sure we go places in the Corvettes, but to listen to people discussing ways and places to get more sponsors so we can help more of our neighbors at Christmas time.

It is a pleasure to have the honor of being your chief. In scouting my name is Chief Bald Eagle.

That is all from the Bald Eagle this month.

Thank you.

30th Annual Big Sky Meet

By Trish Bargman

Looking for something fun to do over the Memorial Day weekend? Take a run up to Missoula, Montana for their 2001 Corvette Odyssey. The Montana clubs have been very good to support our Wild West Vette Fests, so Dick and I are going to make the run up to Missoula on Friday afternoon, May 25. Anyone wanting to travel with us or wanting information about the 2001 Corvette Odyssey should give us a call at 458-4671. The headquarters for the event is the Holiday Inn in Missoula. Cost is $79 per night double occupancy (be sure to mention you are with the Big Sky Corvette Meet to ensure this rate). Book your room early! Ken and Linda Olsen

By Trish Bargman

Ken and Linda Olsen joined the club three years ago and have been active members. They have gone on several trips, and have been at the annual Wild West Vette Fest each year since joining. Last year they were one of our $250 sponsors through their business Snake River IBA. They sell dairy and veterinary supplies in Idaho and Montana.

Ken and Linda are native Idahoans. They have lived in this area most of the time. Married 38 years this year, they have five children three boys and two girls. They also have five grandchildren: three boys and two girls. All the kids are married except one son, and they all live within five minutes of Ken and Linda.

Their beautiful 1973 yellow T-top is their first Corvette. When Ken gets under the wheel he is 18 again (a little birdie told me that). Ken's biggest desire is to beat Kelly Armstrong in a drag race. (That little birdie has a really big mouth. Watch out Kelly; don't underestimate Ken.)

We can't let Linda get off Scott-free either. When nature calls her, don't get in her way -- phone booths, men's restrooms, anywhere is fair game. There is at least one male club member that will always watch his back when Linda is around from now on.

Ken's hobbies include working on cars and fishing. Ken found a 1948 sedan delivery street rod in California recently but could not get it home at the time. He will be going back to California to get it when the weather permits. Ken and his father have a long-standing tradition of going fishing to Alaska every summer. This summer they will be going for his father's 95th birthday. Sometimes they let Linda tag along too.

Linda a wallpapering fool. She will put it anywhere. She is learning to sew, and likes to crochet. She has done some quilting also.

Ken and Linda love to spend time with their family, and are lucky to have them all so close.

Their best memory is the trip they went on with the club to Bowling Green in 1999. They didn't do the whole route with the caravan because of time constrains, but they really enjoyed the trip. Mike and Wanda Pincock teamed up with them and they had a really good time coming back.

They are looking forward to another Corvette season, just like the rest of us. It can't come too soon.

Dear President of Corvettes of Southeast Idaho

Greetings from Merritt Island, Florida

One of the complaints expressed to GM officials, Jim Campbell, Brand Manager for Corvettes; Cheryl Pilcher, Assistant Brand Manager for Corvettes Products; and Lisa Stanick, Assistant Brand Manager for Corvettes Marketing, at various seminar sessions at the C5 Birthday Bash, April 2000, was the lack of a second cup holder for the Fifth Generation Corvette, 97-01. I had made a dual cup holder for my Vette and had been enjoying it for about eight months at that time. People began seeing mine and many asked if I was planning to make them and sell them. I had no intention to ever produce an item or be a businessperson. After many requests, much persuasion, and encouragement I decided to manufacture the cup holder to further assist Corvette owner's enjoyment of their awesome machine.

Now, I am trying to spread the word to more Fifth Generation Corvette, 97-01, enthusiasts. I would greatly appreciate if you would announce this product to your 97-01 Corvette club members. Spring is coming and it is time to get ready to enjoy Corvette cruising again. Product information, pricing, and ordering is as follows:

The dual cup holder works with automatic or 6-speed. The cup holder is aluminum with a black wrinkle powder coat finish. Several photos are attached. Photos show cup holder in use (price is for cup holder only, cups not included). A Special Introductory Price is presently available; however, we do not know how much longer we can continue to offer this price. The Special Introductory Price is $35 plus $6 S&H if shipped in the contiguous U.S. (FL residents add applicable FL & local sales taxes to the $41). No vehicle modification or tools are needed. It's easy to install or remove, just place it in the existing cup holder.

If there are any other questions, or members wanting additional information, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at msisles@telsurf.net . So far, the product is in 25 states, Canada, and England. The cup holder has gotten rave reviews on past posts in the www.CorvetteForum.com , "C5 Corvette General Discussion Forum" section. Also, there is a review in the "Product Review, Interior/Exterior Accessories" section. My product is not sold through any other retailer.

To order we accept first party personal check (name, address, and check number imprinted on check), money order or bank cashier's check. Check or money order payment must be U.S. funds drawn on U.S. bank. Please include phone number and mailing address for shipment to:

Milton Isles

4240 N. Tropical Trail

Merritt Island, FL 32953

I will ship via U.S. Postal Service when check is received. For those that provide an e-mail address, I will e-mail them that I have received their check and shipped their product.

Other Corvette model owners have expressed a need for a dual cup holder for their vehicle. I have had a number of requests from Fourth Generation Corvette owners. I am currently designing something for the 84-89 models with 6-speed and automatic and will possibly consider 90-96. However, I am interested in knowing how great the interest is in the marketplace before continuing with this project. If you would take a survey and respond back by e-mail, msisles@telsurf.net I would be grateful.

Meguiar Session at Taylor Chevrolet

By Rick Stiles

On Saturday morning March 17 I arrived at Taylor Chevrolet in Rexburg at 9 a.m. with Mr. Terry Richards of Meguiar's to begin setting up for our clinic.  About 9:15 when Terry unplugged an extension cord from an outlet we heard a loud pop and the shop went dark and quiet.  Kelly Armstrong arrived (in his Corvette) and saved the day, restoring light and heat.

I planned to have a Corvette for Terry to demonstrate on but he said his first choice would be a black, very dirty car.  I informed him I had just what he wanted in my garage.  Linda said it would be fine to use her car since it would be its first bath since October.  It's a good thing Linda didn't attend the Clinic.  I'm sure my longevity would have been in question when Terry started using sand paper on the fender --  very special sand paper.  Now the fender is the prettiest part of the car.

Terry demonstrated the many Meguear's products as well as proper quantity and use.  I counted 24 people in attendance.  Taylor Chevrolet served juice and cookies and made a video of the clinic.  The tape is available to everyone and can be borrowed from Wayne Valentine at Taylor Chevrolet.  The Club would like to thank Taylor Chevrolet for letting us use their shop and for their hospitality and support of Corvettes of Southeast Idaho.

March Meeting Minutes

By Lynn for Betty McKinlay

The club met at Me N' Stan's in Rexburg March 17 for dinner. There were about 50 members in attendance.

Club President, Lynn McKinlay brought the meeting to order by using the new gavel made by Farrell Davidson. Thank you, Farrell.

Rick Stiles told about the Meguiar's polishing seminar held at Taylor Chevrolet in Rexburg. Wayne Valentine has a video for anyone to view if you would like.

Next meeting will be at China Supper Buffet in Idaho Falls on April 26 at 7:00 p.m.

We had a brief report from Richard Morris. The committee is ahead of schedule and online. The next meeting is a Denny's at 7:00 p.m. in Idaho Falls. We were encouraged to help find door prizes for the Wild West Vette Fest.

Farrell Davidson told us about the two one-day runs for April and May. See the Calendar in this issue.

Wayne Valentine's family was introduced. It was nice to have them with us this evening.

If anything was missed it is my error. That would be the second one this month. Betty went to Twin Falls with Mandy to the track meet. Mandy got a third in the high jump, second in the long jump, and first in the triple jump. Now that the track meet is over, I am sure Mandy is visiting with some young man. He sings in a group with five brothers. You may want to give her a hard time when you see her.
