Minutes
of the March 2003 Meeting
by
Barbara Bell
Thirty-nine members attended the March 19th meeting held at the Sizzler in Idaho Falls.
Bill waters conducted the meeting. He introduced new members Bruce and Donna Madsen.
Farrell Davidson told of a good place in the Lava Hot
Springs area where excellent ribs are served. He suggested that the Club plan
something for a trip there for dinner
and a soak at Lava.
Wanda Pincock explained plans for a quilt to be made and be
auctioned off at the Wild West Vette Fest in August. She handed out a quilt block to each couple and asked
that each couple design and finish the block using a Corvette theme. There are many ways to accomplish this and she
urged all to use their creativity. She also requested that we sign our names to
the blocks. She needs to have the blocks finished and turned into her by May 15.
Sam Miller updated the Boise Run on July 24, 25, and 26. There are only five rooms left in the block he reserved for our club. The motel is holding rooms until June 24, but he advised getting reservations in soon, especially if a king bed is desired. Call 800-342-1044 and refer to booking #2674.
It was reported that 24 women went to Jakers to dinner and then enjoyed the River Dance performance in Idaho Falls. It was a fun evening.
Trish updated the California trip scheduled to start June 7th. She went over the itinerary and encouraged any who still wanted to participate to get in touch with her.
Randy asked for input concerning the D.A.R.E. Dress for Success project. He is meeting with the D.A.R.E. people this week to finalize, and wanted to know if we should split the weeks up or have it all in the same week. It is scheduled for the last part of April. It was decided to split up the two schools to different weeks. Randy stated he would need about 20 cars and would be in touch with members for help.
Ron Bone painted a vivid mental picture of the run planned for May as the first run of the season. After some discussion it was decided to set it for the May 2nd weekend so it won't interfere with Mother's Day and other upcoming events. We will travel to Salt Lake City, then follow the Green River through the Flaming Gorge. We are to contact Ron or Peggy at 522-5838 if we can go. Information was handed out to those interested.
Information was also handed out for the Border Run '03 sponsored by the Twin Falls club. It is in Jackpot May 31/June 1. Registration deadline is May 1 for reduced fee or $60.00 after that.
Wayne announced the next Wild West Vette Fest planning meeting, April 10th at 6:30 at his home. The Barton's have donated two very nice leather jackets for raffle. Wayne has also ordered a Corvette pedal car for the auction. Full cost on the car will be $107.00.
Wayne told of the trailer that has been found. It is a 5 x 8 enclosed with diamond plate on the front. Bish's has committed to a $500.00 sponsorship. The trailer cost is $2000, but considering the $500 back, net would be only $1500.00. We need $3000 to $5000 to pay up front costs for the Fest. We have $2500 in the bank now. If we get the trailer soon we can get shelving built inside and a nice paint job. Wayne encouraged all to help get sponsors and get the money in. He made a motion that when we get $6000 in the bank we would purchase the trailer and have it for advertising throughout the summer leading up to the Vette Fest. The motion was seconded by Jack and carried without an observed dissenting vote.
Wayne also emphasized that July 4th is the absolute last date for sponsor fees anyway, so if we can get them in earlier we can have the trailer ready to pull in parades, etc.
Wayne also suggested that as soon as sponsors pay, they be listed in each newsletter through the year.
Bill asked if the club still wants to do highway cleanup. Our name is on the sign for the area on I-15 that we have done for years. The deadline for re-committing is this month, or our name will be taken off the sign and re-assigned. No one seemed interested in keeping the project, so we will not renew our commitment.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 16 at 7 pm
at Gringo's in Idaho Falls.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm.

Time to get the nice Vettes out for another year. Most just said goodbye for the winter, put a cover over the fire friend, and that was it.
So here we are, taking the cover off, putting the insurance back on, and varoom we are off to a fun time.
Now wait just a minute. A little “pre-flight” check is in order.
Ok enough for this time. Good Vetting to you.
Guldstrand Anniversary Corvette Collector
The much-publicized prototype of the Guldstrand Signature Edition Anniversary Corvette has sold for more than the list price of the car. The new owner, recognizing the Guldstrand Corvette's collector car appeal and potential, paid will into six figures for the Anniversary Gold machine.
Desirability of the limited edition high performance Corvette was further underscored when US Bank agreed to provide financing for the purchase of the Guldstrand Signature Edition package for customers with approved credit.
The car now carries a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on the 500 hp 427 cubic inch V8 Katech engine. Such a warranty is a rarity in the world of high performance custom collector automobiles, but it emphasizes the total streetability built into the Guldstrand Signature Edition package. As demonstrated by road tests in Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Road & Track, and AutoWeek magazines, the Guldstrand Anniversary Corvette has both outstanding performance and reliability. Its quarter-mile acceleration has been recorded at 12.4 seconds and over 120 mph, but it can also cruise on the highway averaging 27 miles-per-gallon fuel economy, while meeting current smog emission standards.
Only 50 Guldstrand Signature Edition Anniversary Corvettes will be sold. Each will have special serialized identification number plates and Dick Guldstrand's personal signature. The package is available only on 2003 Z06 Corvettes, and can be ordered through local Chevrolet dealers or installed on cars already in the hands of owners.
The New Generation 427 V8, based on the standard 5.7-liter engine in the Z06, which powers the Signature Edition car is complemented by other performance enhancements like a Flowmaster exhaust system, and Guldstrand's special suspension refinements including 1.5- and 1-inch front and rear stabilizer bars with heim-jointed links. Putting this power and handling performance to ground are Z-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tires, 275/35ZR18 in front and 295/35ZR19 in the rear mounted, respectively, on 10- and 11-inch wide Fiske Profil 10 wheels.
In addition to the enormous street-going power afforded by the 427 built by Katech Engineering to Guldstrand's exacting specifications, the Signature Edition package features side aero extensions, a power dome hood, refined rear fascia with a lip spoiler and European-style taillights, and a bold graphic treatment from former General Motors and Corvette designer John Schinella done in Anniversary Gold and Cobalt Blue paint by Dupont.
The interior package, designed by Schinella and executed by Lear Vision Works, has re-contoured seats upholstered in leather and suede that matches the gold and blue exterior, embossed Guldstrand Anniversary logos, a carbon fiber center console, and blue suede accents on the shift lever, steering wheel, and door panels.
Customers interested in purchasing the Signature Edition package can contact either their local Chevrolet dealer or Guldstrand Motor Productions, LLC for details. More information on the Guldstrand Signature Edition 50th Anniversary Corvette can be found at the Guldstrand Motor Productions Website, www.CorvetteThunder.com.

Ben and Claudia Sanchez took their sweetheart to a Southern Utah car show and came home big winners. Their 1962 Corvette took “Outstanding Vehicle” trophy. “It was a big surprise to us,” said Ben, “There were some beautiful cars there.”
Part of their competition was a ’54 Corvette featured in Vette Magazine. The ’54 included C4 running gear and an LT4 engine, with over $90,000 invested in its reconstruction.
The Sanchez’s -- part of a small group instrumental in starting the Club -- have remained active Club members even though their work put them in Italy for three years and California for the last two.
“We are planning on attending the Wild West Vette Fest in August. I may buy a trailer to transport the ’62. It’s no road car. After you’ve been in it for a while you’re ready to get out,” says Ben. The ’94 (we had earlier) was a much better ride and I can hardly wait to get a C5.”
Ben and Claudia are now retired and living in St. George, Utah where they are in the process of building a new home. “We have finalized the plans for our house and have them out for bid now. We are anxious to get started. It’s going to be a pretty good sized home, so there will be plenty of room for our Club friends to visit us.”

Saturday June 7 - Meet at old Ernst building on Broadway in Idaho Falls at 8:00 am. We will travel to Winnemucca, NV today. Our hotel is the Best Western Holiday Motel, 670 W. Winnemucca Blvd. 800-262-8901, rooms are blocked under Corvettes of Southeast Idaho, and Helene is our contact. Rates are $64 plus tax, the rooms have two double beds mostly, but also have queen and a few kings beds. There is a heated pool, coffee in the rooms, and a continental breakfast in the morning. You also receive a coupon booklet for nickels, drinks, and breakfast at the Red Lion across the street from the hotel. Rooms will be held until May 20. You can cancel 24 hours before the 7th and not be charged. There is a Basque Festival and a Seventh Day Adventist Convention in town this weekend so the rooms will sell out in all the hotels.
Sunday June 8 - Today we will go to Lake Tahoe. We should arrive in Lake Tahoe about noon. We cannot check into our hotel until 3:00 pm, so there will be time to drive around the lake, go to the casinos, or take a side trip to Virginia City on the way to the Lake. Our hotel is the Days Inn Casino Area, 968 Park Ave, South Lake Tahoe 800-448-0754. Rooms are under Corvettes of Southeast Idaho; if you have trouble ask for Karen. Rates are king $56, queen $49. There is some covered parking for about 12 cars. This is not reserved parking; it is first come first served. We will be within walking distance of the casino area and the lake; there is also a shuttle that comes by the hotel and goes to the casino area. There is a heated pool, and continental breakfast at the hotel; also for anyone 50 years or older there are coupons for a free full breakfast at one of the smaller casinos in town. You can cancel 48 hours before arrival.
Monday June 9 - This day is not set in stone as yet. There is a possibility that Tioga Pass will not be open and we will not be able to go through Yosemite Park. If we cannot do this we will take HWY 49 from Placerville to Sonora. This is part of the Gold Road, with lots of curves and small mining towns to explore. There is even Big Trees State Park where we can see some Sequoia Redwood trees. There is one tree that is big enough they held dances on it. We will hope the pass is open and we can go through Yosemite, as originally planned. Hotel information to come as the time gets closer.
Tuesday June 10 & Wednesday June 11 - We should arrive in Monterey shortly after noon on Tuesday, so you will have 1 to 2 days in the Monterey area. Our hotel for this time is the Lighthouse Inn & Suites in Pacific Grove, 1150 Lighthouse Ave. 800-858-1249 This hotel is located next to the Pacific Grove Golf Course, one block from the ocean, half mile from the entrance to the 17 mile drive, and next to the Historic Point Pinos Lighthouse. The lighthouse has been in operation since 1855, the building, third order lens and prisms are all original. It is the oldest active lighthouse on the west coast. The hotel has a heated pool, hot tub, a full breakfast each morning, pool side Bar B Q from 4:30 to 6:30 every afternoon. Each room has 32-in. color TV, robes, microwave, and fridge. Our rooms are ground floor with the cars well protected right by the room. Beds are queen size and extra long. (King size rooms are available also, but they are on the second floor.) We are also getting a special on an aquarium package that includes two boxed lunches, and two adult tickets ($17.95 each) to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (probably the best aquarium in the states). These will be for Wednesday. The rates for these days are: Tuesday $109 and Wednesday $139. If you do not want the Aquarium Package both nights will be $109; be sure to mention this when you call for your reservations. The block of rooms will be held until May 8, after that only if there is availability. The block is under Corvettes of Southeast Idaho. Ask for Daniel if you have any problems.
Thursday June 12 - We will travel down the coast to Hearst Castle at San Simeon. It is a 135-mile trip that will take four hours or more. I’m sure we will want to stop and take pictures several times along the way. We will arrive at the Castle in plenty of time to take at least one tour of the Castle and still have time for a second different tour if you so desire. Tours are $14 adults and $7 for children. It is recommended that we make reservations for the tour that we want. We will be staying at the Silver Surf Hotel, 9390 Castillo Dr, San Simeon. 800-621-3999. Alex is our contact and the rooms are under the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho. (Alex is on vacation and will not be back until February 22; Bob will help you if you have trouble.) Rates are queen $59, king $69, 2 queens $69, 2 doubles $59. There is anIndoor heated pool, spa, and full breakfast and restaurant next door.
Friday June 13 – We will get up early and hit the road for Las Vegas. We should be in Las Vegas by 4 pm. (that way we beat the LA traffic). We are staying at the Boardwalk Casino Holiday Inn, 3750 Las Vegas Blvd, 1-800-635-4581. Rooms are $69 plus tax, under the Corvettes of Southeast Idaho. If you have trouble ask for Norma. This rate is good until May 1; if you cancel before noon on June 11 there is no penalty.
Dick and I are going to California over Easter and will be in the Sonora/Yosemite area so we will have the hotel information for Monday the 9th when we get back.
If you have any questions please give me a call 458-4671.
