The Horsehead nebula in Orion ( IC434). A dark nebula formed by a huge cloud of dust and non-luminous gas. The "horse head" is made visible as a silhouette in front of a glowing emission nebula. The nebula is 1600 light years away. The Horsehead itself is about 1 light year across.
